Got a question for all you knowledgable people out there...

Will the steering wheel switch from a Gaylander work on a D2 Td5?

Or same switch from a Rover? (of unknown parentage)

Seen some cheep on fleabag. Rang main stealer on tues re switches and STILL waiting for a callback re them being on back order (or some bs excuse)

Hope someone can help. Cheers guys.

PS. Am still amazed at the difference made by binning me EGR. And thanks again to UrbanPanzer for his excellent how - to guide. Legend.

Cruise control on TD 5 is all wired up except for the two switches.

BRAND NEW the pair of switches should cost under £30!

The Ebay mob want £65 for them, which is a rip-off.

Fitting is easy to the original steering wheel.

1x Master switch for the binnacle: Part# YUH100370 (£8.80 Land Rover)
1x Steering wheel switch (£15 ebay) (£30ish from LR)

I've been fitting cruise control in for the last couple of weeks and just got round to finishing it about 35 minutes ago. I got the steering wheel switch from L. R. Series - specialists in land rover, land rover series and range rover - gearbox, axle, transmission parts, spares and major units. They were really helpfull and no more expensive than dealer. All of the dealers say this part is on back order at the moment with no idea when it will be available. The metal bit in the wheel is a bit of a pain. It should be easy to fabricate one cause you wont find new one to buy anywhere. I managed to get mine from A1 breakers in Bury, only cost me £10 and I got a spare radio switch to boot which will be on e-bay soon. Land rover breakers - A1 LAND ROVER BREAKERS speak to John.

Hmmmm..... my steering wheel switch came complete with the little bracket and a screw and washer even!

Have you tried it yet?

My advice ... when you aren't using it SWITCH IT OFF ON THE DASH!
One touch of the resume button might fling on full throttle just when that's not a good idea!

Have you sussed out the operating schemes?

I tried it out and it works ok, a little strange in a manual but bound to be useful on long boring motorway cruising. The point about switching off is well made. I've used cruise a lot in the US and accidentally flicked it on once and had my car careering away for about a second (seemed like longer). I'll try it out properly at the weeken.

I think you will like it, and it will save fuel.

I pick a running speed and set cruise. Up hill and down dale that's the speed it runs at.

Most drivers tend to let the speed creep up as the engine warms and runs smoother. your good intention was a drive along at a steady sixty, but after an hour you were doing 75 to 80. Cruise doesn't do that. It holds the speed.

A year back from July I drove from here to Woking on 44 litres of diesel.
That was 417 miles on just under 10 gallons of fuel in a two ton Discovery.

Not bad!

But that far at under 60 all the way is a trial.

How does cruise control work with a manual gearbox? surely the idea of cruise control is that you just sit back and let the car drive you and with an auto box i understand, but with a manual gearbox you the driver still have to get the car to do what you want.

JH2, thanks for that, I used A1 in Bury a while back to get a middle rear seatbelt, John's a good lad, went up there and took it out meself, John let me have a good rummage. Oooer missus! Don't know why I didn't think of him before...

Anyway, in reply to the above question, my understanding of how CC works on a disco Td5 is that because it is basically a P.C on wheels it's all done with accelerometers, potentiometers and ECU's. Drive by wire kinda thing. If I am wrong I'm sure someone will be along soon to correct me! :)

CharlesY, those stats are impressive, and that's exactly why I want to fit it!

Gonna give John a ring and see what's what. Thanks guys
