is there a year that the build quality was better than other years on disco 1, someone told me certain years had serious rust problems due to metal used to build them, any truth in this?

I don't know if there's any truth in it, as iv'e have never heard about it, but as the disco progressed I suspect the build quality and materials got better, so overall the last 300's were better than the first 300's and 300's are better than 200's.
All D1's were undersealed and had cavity wax treatment, what I have seen of the D2 I don't think they were undersealed but then maybe LR designed out the areas that were prone to rust on the D1 ie. the mud traps underneath the bootfloor called bracing struts.

Some model years of discos do indeed suffer from poor build quality and inferior materials. The years 1989 through to 1998 are the ones to avoid generally.
