The bit thats worrying me is the fact that they did 3 sniff tests and 3 compression tests that came up clear. They rekoned the headgasket was ok.

It was only the fact that I got fed up and told em to strip the engine cos I was fed up with the overpressurising. When they stripped the engine it was found that the head had been shifting on the nylon dowels and that the HG WAS gone. They then skimmed and pressure tested the head and re-fitted it.

Now suddenly the head is cracked TWICE and they missed both of em. I'm starting to wonder just how much knowledge engineering companies have.:(

Bit like the "VW/Audi group approved" Mechanic my mate took his audi 2006 A3 2.0 TDi 16v to get a cracked head sorted.

Bought a head of fleabay for £250 allready pressure tested (cheap) new one from VAG would have £1100. He then decided it would be a good Idea to get it fitted propper so off to said VAG "approved" mechanic. Comes back 2 days later running sweet as a nut and cost £400 in parts (headgasket, belt and tensioner) and labour. On sunday i get a phone call from my mate "can you come tow my car home? Engines died after making a queer noise." So goes and gets him drags it back to his, open the bonnet first port of call in regard to described symptoms was the cam belt cover. "Wheres the belt? must have snapped." "Oh hang on there it is down round the crank pulley" It was still in one piece and hadn't failed so checked the tensioner... slack and the retaining nut hand tight. So now the valves are ****ed (both cams locked up) and haven't got the head off yet to see whether we've got any cracked pistons so the whole engine could be totalled.

Changed Air, Oil and fuel filter, cleaned out Sedimenter, generally gave it a service, brakes clutch and PS all seem topped up, coolant's all OK and a good colour, could do with changing oil, but didn't have time as the weather persisted it down suddenly .. ;)

On list for tomorrow are Oil change, wheel bearings check, all pivot points and bushes check, Discs and Pads, though they were done only 5k ago anyway and general 'stuff' checks ... ;)

Going away at the weekend, towing the caravan to Anglesey so want it reasonable, plus the MOT's due in August and I want to spot any problems now.

Well .. it all looked good, bearing in mind I had run it yesterday and all was well ... did all the checks, filled up with new oil (drained old overnight) checked everything again and started up ... what a noise!!

Couldn't understand it ... so looked underneath and saw it right away ...the exhaust downpipe, just where it curves to go backwards, looks like some fecker's drilled a hole in it! Can't believe it, but they must have 'cos it's a perfectly round hole with a tad of curly swarf!

Really ****ed off now, couldn't get a piccie either 'cos the phone's playing up and the digi camera wouldn't start up either, not my day I guess. So, either a new downpipe or Gun-Gum and bandage ... I think Gun-Gum 'cos I'm skint and haven't time to feck about chasing stuff.

i drove mint to the chippy and back!!! remembered why i love it even though it has a saggy spring on the nearside front and it has no tailgate, also i started the planning proper for its resurrection to glory and offroad beastlyness

finally got round to sorting out some music in the disco!! after 4 months of the 'next track' button falling off and the cd's in the changer only playing randomly i'd had enuff!! new Kenwood mp3 player is now in, and remembering that the rear sub needs an adaptor i did the sensible thing and didnt buy 1 . got a 12" sub and 150w amp instead:D very impressed with the sound now, and more impressed that sound actually comes out when i want it to for a change!! the amp is mounted on the rear carpet and all wires are under the carpet so its not in the way, and the sub box is easily removable if i need the space in the back.
