I can't see any reason a marine/leisure battery cannot safely be used in a Landy.

The specifications are up to par (800CCA and 86 Ah) and the distributor says it'll be fine, boat batteries have to start hoofing great doisil engines in boats and they'll take deep cycling and I'm forever running me batteries flat.

So I'll keep testing it until someone offers valid reason why it shouldn't be used / or it blows up. Whichever comes second.

lesuire batteries are designed for depe cycle, i.e. constant fairly gentle discharge, to be filled up gently to the top again.

Use one as a short cycle high current battery, i.e. a starting battery, where it gets sat in the cold, then suddenly requried to give HUGE amps, then charged up REALLY quickly, then tickled along, and it won't last as long as a proper batty will.

Is this true even though they're expected to crank doisel boat engines? The one I got has got a rating of 800CCA.

I think people are getting confused between Marine batteries and Leisure batteries. the latter been designed for use in caravans. I've just bought an Optima style battery with a CCA of 1000. and designed for dual purpose use. for a fraction of the cost of an optima.

that statement is useless without a link red(of is it though one of your 'sources')
Thru one of me sources but If enough people wanted em I could probably get him to put another order in. I'm picking it up on Wednesday night so will post a piccy and details on here on Thursday.

The Numax I got is a marine/leisure battery, hence the title of the thread and the poll.

How much was the Optima style you got?
He usually does em for about £65. But I got mine for £57 as someone changed their mind and he had it sitting in his garage doing nowt.

Right just been to have a look at the post me mate made and it's a 110Ah 700CCA dual purpose Marine/Leisure battery with post terminals. and no flange on the base so battery clamp has to be the type that fits over the top.

X-Eng have started selling em anorl. but with less AH and more CCA (though I suspect they've stretched the truth slightly on the CCA) as that rating will only be achievable under perfect conditions and perfect temperatures. The optima thing came about cos he quoted the CCA of the redtop and it confoosed me. Cos me memory is fooked up and getting worse.
