Hi all, new here, I hope some peeps might be able to help.

I need to get a 4x4 for my wife to pull a horse box. I'm guessing we need something that can pull two horses in a ivor williams type trailer.

I really do not want to spend a lot of cash, up to 2K. I've found an N rege 300tdi with 140K on the clock, Diesel.

It has a diff lock as far as I can see, it also has a welding job under both the rear wheel arches, seen when opening the door. Sills seem OK, is there anything else I should be looking for?

Any help much appreciated. How long do these engines run for or am I asking for trouble for a Disco of this age?

Regards,
T

I am not trying to be rude but the search function is not the best here. As a new member I have tried searching for some things on several occasions and never find what I am looking for (manual winder in a 200tdi window is broken) but I'm afraid to ask because you usually get a response like above :(

with respect, it's just taken me less than 20 seconds to find (using the forum search) numerous threads containing questions and answers almost identical to yours - what's the point of answering the same questions over and over again simply because people can't be arsed to figure out how the search works ?

welcome to LZ btw :)

Sean upsetting the noobs again...

dont wory about the engine... worry about the chassis crumbling in to rust and dust, have a good poke about underneath with yer screwdriver and a torch before you buy.

........ and the load area under the rear carpet

see you've made me feel guilty fer not being elpfull now

tut - this is a repeat

well i certainly would of thought for your budget you should be able to pick up something in fairly goo d condition but get the 300 tdi as they are very good look out for boot floors inner outter sills inner wing check for rust everywhere

has charlesY given up trying to get back onto LZ batten ?

I think so... I havent spoke to him a few months now, I should give him a call really...

Shame, he's an asset to the community. Can PM his details if you want to try to help him. It were a mystery to me...

Don't worry about it, I'm use to people like Sean, I'm a "n00b" on this forum but not others. I did search and it bought back such a generic load of rubbish I'd thought I'd ask, I'll certainly be lifting the carpets :)

Try and find one with a stuck Hi/Lo Diff lock lever. They are reasonably easy to free off and are a good bargaining point if vendor doesnt know how easy it is... (sound of sucking air) "looks like the gearbox is fooked, thats goin to cost £500 to put right".....

On a more serious note. look for staining around all the rear windows - the seals harden and crack.
