OK, here goes.

Whats the biggest tyres you can get on a land rover defender (unlifted) and still get decent axle articulation?

love,

Lil-landy

PS: Not that I intend on doing it! I don't have the money!

When I get new wheels and tyres on mine I'm gonna be going for 255/85/16s I think. Not the most popular choice but slightly narrower and taller so should do the job without any rubbing on full lock. Apparently these are pretty much the biggest you can fit without having any problems? Have seen a mates 235/75/16s and they look a bit small to be honest would like something a bit taller with more aspect ratio.

but the 235/85's mentioned earlier are a whole 5 cm bigger and are actually very slightly taller than the 265/75's mentioned. (just not quite so wide, so not quite as "big" in the volume sense.

Yup, so I'm assuming the 255/85s will be slightly taller still? on 7 inch wide rims will they go on a standard 90 without any spacers or rubbing anywhere?

If not I'll look at 235/85s instead. I know so far that I want an 85 profile, just not too bothered about the width as long as it clears everything :)

Not so fast Noob.

If you have a tyre size of say 235/85/16. The 235 is the width 235mm. The 85 is the profile of the width as a percentage, So in this case 85% of 235. The 16 is the wheel size. 16" in this case. So a 235/85/16 tyre has pretty much the same height as a 265/75/16 tyre (all bar about 2mm).

Get it?;)

Oi, where did I mention 265/75 tyres? I know how the aspect ratio works I just wanted to know if the 255/85/16 tyres would fit a 90 without any rubbing (of the rubbery sort) ;)

I did use the search but it just found loads of threads full of people being told to use the search. Laugh? I nearly started.

You didn't. I did. You said that you knew so far you wanted a 85 profile tyre. I was just showing you that you may not need it.
