Be careful with the sugar as figs are sweet when cooked,W made that mistake and it set like concreteNot this time as no sugar to make jam.
But next visit to the shop may bring back 20kg for that purpose.

Now ere's summat.
Drove doon the toon for shopping today in the Pluriel.
Car drove as normal down the mounting and to the market, then on to the dump. Had so little to get rid of I left W in the car with the engine running while I got rid of the bits in various bins.
Got back in and drove out, terrible, raucous noise coming from somewhere, stopped, looked all around the car, nothing draagging on the ground, no flat tyres, nowt. Drove on a bit, same thing, stopped and looked again. Noise was intermittent and seemingly dependant on which way the wheel was turned, as we cornered at one point I thought it was linked to the steering so I put it through lock to lock, but it din't seem to show anything more, or less. Drove to the butcher's drove away again, noise still there.
Went to Leclerc, each bit of these journeys was between half a mile and a coupla miles. Tried pulling on the handbrake to see if it was coming from the rear brakes. It sounded as if a bit of metal or summat was rubbing on a wheel or a brake disc, but that made no difference. TBH the only worse noise I have ever heard like this was when a bit of exhaust came off and dragged along the tarmac.
So, at Leclerc did our shopping, got back to the car loaded it and then I went round it shaking it as vigourously as possible on each corner trying to make it make the noise, to see which corner it was coming from, heard no noise whatsoever.
W going on a bit about it, so I told her if it made it back home I could always get it on the trailer and leave it there to be towed home and fixed there, i.e. in Blighty, as we are only 22 days away from that happening.
Anyway, we started it up and drove out of the carpark, no noise as yet, around a roundabout off towards toon, still no noise, over a sleeping policeman, round another tight roundabout, then off it, still no noise. Long story short, all the way up the mountain, i.e. 44 bends, 3 at least hairpins, and back home. No reptition of the noise at all!!
WT actual Flip!!!!!?????
Had I shaken summat loose just like that??
I am still going to have a proper look on Sunday as we are busy with a dinner party between now and then, but this is the first time I have given a car a physical piece of my mind, a la Basil FAWLTY, and it has started behaving itself!![]()

This is what a properer off-roader looks like in action.
And not an inch of rust, nor bits falling off.
And a heater that works
(And no, it didn’t nearly ‘roll over’)
Tinkering Is a lot of fun but driving it is much more fun , don't let it became a obsession.... OK, I admit it is a disease/fetish. I cannot stop tinkering with the Mini.
Today I put a couple more degrees on the timing and yes the burn line on the earth strap moved to be right where I think it should be. I also fiddled with the mixture so I will give it a few more runs and then disassemble a plug to see where the line is on the electrode porcelain (too rich/too-weak/just-right).

Are you, @Hippo and. @WhiskyLassie having a clandestine Freelander bash in Jockland? Why are us tratter’s excluded? (Maybe should not have asked the second question)Afternoon tea in Falkirk![]()
No indeed not, but it is only by driving it around that you get to test if your "tinkering" is producing positive results. So it is a good excuse to say "just popping out for 20 minutes to check out what I just altered love, be back soon." There is a method in my madness.Tinkering Is a lot of fun but driving it is much more fun , don't let it became a obsession![]()
