Yep - they did also find a tiny seep on the compressor where the hoses connect so I’ll get some fresh o-rings at the same time.
In other news I was under the car and have found a frankly hilariously sized hole in the y joint in the exhaust..

Told my Classic to stop complaining about getting a little more use over the past 3 months (might even cover 1000m this year) & being parked in the open for the past 17 years .. though I did wish it a happy 38th birthday & promised to rectify the non-operational NSF window

Very rude. Noticed it and as I pulled myself further under the car it just kept getting bigger.
Didn't do anything with her today *yet*, might just be able to pick her up this afternoon so if everything works out on my end, the car is finishes with loaner SUs! Really looking forwars to it, as is, surprisingly, the whole family including my wife! She even convinced me, well naged me over the last inch, to go with the more expensive Weber carbs! Not being able to go kayaking with the kids for a lack of sufficient transportation dor three boats and four people certainly helped!

Fired up the green P38 for the first time in several weeks. EAS went straight up to correct height. Loaded up some garage rubbish, cardboard, an old freezer & load of empty beer cans, and off to local household waste centre.
What bugs me is the dump regularly changes the skip order, so it's always a challenge to load the car in the best sequence.

Fitted the new exhaust yesterday. I went for one of the £335 ‘sports’ ones you can find on eBay. I must say I’m overall extremely impressed with the welding and it fit beautifully, something I wasn’t sure would happen.
Sound wise there’s an ever so slight burble but nothing that’s intrusive in the cabin. In fact the cabin is back to its old serene self now there’s not a 6in hole in the exhaust directly below the floor.

Obsessing about the order of the skips is a retirement issue
So, picked her up yesterday, went to a expidition vehicle meet up with the mechanic and some friends and some others. I felt poor for a sec, between people having a private warehouse twice the size of our not small house next to there villa, for lack of an other word, with unresticted view on the Alos and a lake (the hosts), two people with private collections of dozens of classic cars and military vehicles (the latter my mechanic, the former a guy who inherited a motor museum with cars from 1907 to 1958 from his father) three couples going on multi-months world trips in expedition trucks worth easily high six figures... The only normal guy, I assume, was an older guy who pulled his trusted landcruiser with a camoer cabin out of storage forbthe occassion. Oh, there also was a young couple arpund 25 that bought a refurbished camper converted Defender for 35k for fun, easily done since he has private workshop (real workshop, CNC lace, powder coating facilities for one cubic meter, private warhouse, multiple race motorcycles...)...
Well, it was nice enough to hear stories from the upper 1% for a change!
Now to the car, the loaner SUs came with the condition to never ever touch the mixture. Whicj is now to lean for the bew cam shaft. Regardless, she turns happily up to 6 k in third, reaches 135 kmh without issues and drives easily 140 again! Nice surprise! The exhaust manifolds are gone so, with the Weber carbs some Y-manifolds are on order now.
Only thing, the rear axle is leaking between the prop shaft and the diff now. Well, to fixed later.
Happy to have her back!
I did spend the night without half the camping stuff, meabing I woke up at 5, but got some magnificent sunrise pics to make up for the short night!
EDIT: I forgot toention the author for a world travel magazine who just came back from 2 years in Africa, cool guy!

The half shaft i replaced.. what.. a couple of weeks ago!? The cv boot is forked!! Grease everywhere!! Really frigging annoyed

Pump some grease in and then seal the hole with silicone as a temporary fix perhaps?

I find the plastic boots last longer, the modern "rubber" is bolox

I didn't put any grease in as i don't have anything suitable but i had some black silicone i used on the p38 sump

I was very careful when i fitted it. It was very difficult to get in though with the ARB in placeWas it knocked at all during fitting
Out and about for a couple of short motorway trips, Ashford to Broadstairs (sounds a bit posher than Margate) and before that Ashord to Folkestone and back. On the way back from Marstairs approaching folkeston the "brake worn" light came on. Got home and checked things out, offside rear very "warm", too warm to touch, noffside front warm, I'd freed off that caliper a few months ago. It seems like a new set of pads will be required, hopefully th discs won't be too worn, I'll check them in the morning. what pads do people recommend? It's the 60 reg TDV8 4.4. What else will I need for pad replacement? Sensors? Also what sort of cost?
