SERIES 3 GEAR BOX WOES.

Can any one tell me how to get the Layshaft into a series box? An experience friend (can rebuild preselect boxes) and I spent all day trying to get the layshaft in. Several weeks ago i gently tapped it home but broke the bearing cage. new parts and new effort. We could have spent the day drinking in the sunshine and made the same lack of progress.. Help!

Genuine bearing? Is the problem that the rollers stop the whole thing going in?

hi, without the mainshaft in position the bearing rollers slip in easily but it seems impossible with the mainshaft in, with the reverse
idler held up.

I had this problem. The cage doesn't hold the rollers tight enough to slip in. Genuine bearing needed.

Possible, but the previous bearing was original. and i have reused the outer race.

Extra grease on the rollers to stick them in place?

I am just reading about the differing measurements in the a-C suffixes. might have a rogue cog
