What have you done to your Freelander today

Did a underside check today, now when the winter is over. Propshaft carrier bearings still tight, diff doesn't move exessively, couple of rust spots haven't got any worse - nothing to worry. Then I remembered that I didn't replace the rubber turbo hose when I changed all the other ones. Found the new one in a package and did the replacement job outside in a sunshine. The original hose had 04 timestamp on it, so it was most probably the original from the factory.

Today’s 15 minute job…. Oil and filter plus airfilter. Total time? Fecking hours. A mouse had created a love nest in the area around the injectors 😡. Noticed vacuum hoses had chafed through in the injector region, replaced them all.

Got around to the oil filter to find what had been fitted in an emergency last year in Austria was incorrect but fitted okay. No part numbers 😬. (Engine sounds very different with ceramic oil btw).

No surprise that the turbo seems to pick up earlier in range during test drive.

Significant other asked what will I be working on tomorrow 😇.

Few bits of fun today. First was changing out the washer fluid cap for the Volvo(?) funnel. Love it already.

Then replacing the fuel cap retainer. Nice to not have to find somewhere to put it now.

Lastly the whole tailgate housing came off, and I replaced the wiring loom. New switch that actually works. I thought to now you HAD to use the button on the fob to operate the boot and it was a security design feature. No, now the switch actually works. It also appears to have stopped trying to open every time I unlock it or set off. Back to original bulbs temporarily, ran out of light to crimp the LED replacements back on but I'm pleased regardless

I think the fuel cap retainer breaks for a hobby!

Changed the engine oil and filter.

Went to check the oil level in manual gearbox. The fill plug placement is just....but there's enough space to do it...and get a gear oil treatment on your hair

I have long hair -some call it silver some grey
to me it's just forgotten that it's was blond

But i take a supermarket plastic packet - the ones with the handles built in - wrapped around my noggin when I change oils cause it takes weeks for the oil to vacate the follicle's.

Does make the hair more blond or red or black depending on it's scource

Make sure no oil dripped onto your alternator if it’s a TD4!!! (I place a plastic bag over it, because oil in the alternator is a sure fire way to kill it).

For me there's no need for plastic bags. The hair that is left is short and I can clean them with brake cleaner if needed. ;)

A while back I drew up a matrix of all of the different USB combinations I tried to get a regular stick to be read by the Freelander 2 so I could watch whatever I wanted. Whatever I tried wouldn't work, and today I found out it wasn't any of the flash settings.

It's because you can't just drop videos onto the USB stick. You have to make a folder and drag them into there.

So D:/***.avi is invalid, but D:/videos/***.avi is good.

Just watched a bit of one and sound and picture were great!

I have replaced the centre exhaust and front rear diff mount :)

Well done - very neat.

I'm jealous of your work space.

I've just discovered I need to fit a new back box, all my exhaust system is still original after 8 years.

However I'm stuck in a LandRover parts wilderness here - nearest exhaust supplier is some 300 miles away - so I've just wrapped it up in some asbestos-type tape until I can find a new one.

Being on relief standby at work is very boring - so the Freelander has been washed and even polished, and I've adjusted, tweaked, torqued, and tested everything that can be t, t & t - ready for the run home at the end of the month.

Singvogel.
Well, after taking our freelander2 in for a 10, 000mile service ( we have only just bought it about a month ago) it came back with glowing reports, just a couple of things need doing........being an ex pat yorkshire lad i began to panic a bit. it needs a new diff as the one on made a whining noise, i thought it was coming from the passenger seat but apparently not.well due to the fact that i am now my wifes full time carer.for the first time in my motoring history i have to pay to get it done at a independant landrover dealer. lifes so much fun owning landrovers init.

Finished the last round of painting my sump guard. Previous owner had made one (reworked from some other vehicle) himself and it had some rust and dents. Ground off the rust and most of the paint, primed in black and painted the bottom in olive. At least I'll be able to tell with a quick glance what part touched rocks or if I'm leaking too much. ;)

This post needs a picture or two. ;)
