My first thought when I saw that was actually how to get a cheap rotary coupler for you (with a load of spares to make up the expense)
It’s still in my mind but it’s an auto and very far away, wouldn’t have an mot and even if I could drag it back here I’ve got nowhere to keep it off-road pending work

Got a spare on the scrapper but that's done over 170k miles too. A lot of it in London so probably almost gone.

I might have to swap it just to get through the MoT test.
 
A cable for the throttle...similar.
A slider for heater controls, proper steel bumpers, points and condensor, I could carry nearly everything to fix my car on the road in a tupperware box!
Sound like a dinosaur now!
Electronic fuel injection has improved fuel consumption on cars so I'm OK with electronic throttle control. Never liked points and condensor, always modified my cars. could still carry the necessary spares in a small box. The rest I agree with.
