Alternator Trouble

I've got a 1985 110 engine swapped to a disco 200 TDI. My alternator isn't charging at all and the battery light is on very dim when ignition is turned and while running. I've checked all the connections and there's nothing obvious. Does it look like I just need a new alternator? If so I'm assuming I need STC233 but most of the pictures look like they don't have the plug connection like mine does. Any advice appreciated, cheers!

As a side note, I've had a lot of trouble with belt squeal which ironically has gone away now the alternator isn't working.

It will most likely be the regulator that has failed preventing the alternator from charging the battery, these are usually replicable if you can find the correct one for your alternator. I have just had my alternator fail and replaced it get the vehicle back on the road quickly but I plan on replacing the regulator on the old one and keeping it as a spare.

The belt squeal will have stopped now the alternator is not charging because there will be no load on the alternator (not charging a discharged battery). The disco 200tdi is renowned for regularly losing tension on the alternator and I have just replaces the slider on mine with a turnbuckle to try and rectify that. it has only been fitted a couple of weeks so cannot yet give a long term assessment of how well it has worked to solve it but the thread is here: LINK

Looks like a Lucas A127 type. Have a look at MURE "rotatingelectrics.co.uk" I have used them several times. Suppliers of replacement alternator/starter parts and complete units. Decent Prices.
