I had that exact experience except mine was at the checkout of a French supermarket - very, very embarassing.
Quite understand, and sympathise.
Which is why we always go in with at least 4 cards and a load of cash.
What has bothered us more than once is going to a petrol station where you pay at the pump and all our cards being declined.
Got very dodgy one time, we only just managed to struggle into an old style one where you paid at the desk. There the blokey had been ripped off so often he made you pay first and then fill up, and he controlled the pump from where he was behind the desk!
Not funny!:(

Some bits of motorbike injun arrived this morning so I spent a couple of hours fitting a new small end bush in a con rod. Perfect fit for the gudgeon pin before fitting but needs about half a thou reaming out after fitting. But my adjustable hand reaming tool is microscopically just too big to fit the handle. So I need to file a bit off the end of the tool so it will fit the handle. Easy enough - but my file is in my dottir's garage 30 miles away. I'll get it at the weekend. No hurry for this job, as the big end bolts have just departed Los Angeles airport ----
You've only got one file????

And people say I'm tight?!;)

...that the header tanks in the attic now have an overflow arrangement that routes to outside. :)
...that I am filthy dirty from attic dust and insulation fibres.
...thatI think that is enough for today. :D
Hast thou not boarded over thine attic? We did (well, I say "we" guess who?) that ages ago. gives you tons more room to store tat.
And as I know your house is a lot like my old 1928 house, I nearly put a permanent darkroom up there, before digital came along! Plenty of head room! ;)
Good to hear the overflow is as it should be!

My private pension is 200 a month and they are taking 60 quid a month in tax
Suppose it's not 30% of my gross income but it's 30% of the extra that I saved for all my life
Not funny at all.
Lots of us in a similar boat.
Tis all to do with the git not upping the thresholds more than anything.
Tax by stealth.
He really is a little prep school git whose mother dresses him funny.
And his Chancellor who ought to change his first name to Mike, or Yorrak!

I'm taking a week off in June to go hiking and camping in the Lakes. Just wondering if my knees are up to the Scarth Gap. Last time I did it they were forty years younger.
Have fun and take it easy. The knee is one of, if not the, worst designed joints on the yuman bod. We should never have stood up, back in the day. :(

...I am surprised my Sis hasn't had an "incident" yet.
I took her BP last night (we were discussing such things) and hers is 149/89 @ 90BPM. which I think is awfully high.
She says she is on meds for it, but I don't think they are working. :(
Depending on her age I don't think that's all that high. Mine can be like that and they told me not to worry although I do have to add that my BPM was 72. :(

Now here's a thing ;).
If you have a mobile plan they have fair play and moaning is included maybe at your plan rate, I.E its free included;).

If you get with new tech you could use your data and minutes in france for the time you are there free:).

Glad you are there safe though.

J
a PLAN???
A PLAN???
You mean paying for something I might not use? every month? Not this (tight) soldier!!
🤣🤣🤣
I use PAYE, and yep it's no more dear than int UK!
So it ain't cheap but I use it so little that it still only costs me about £10 a year. Horses for courses. W uses hers all the time so she has a "plan" £7 a mumf. In an emergency she can go up to £50 before they stop it. So if there's a serious prob we use hers!

Well she runs and I just cut the lawn with it.
There is a problem with the throttle rods and that's why it wont start
If I jam the governor rod open/closed ?? a bit she starts right away and then runs without the rod jammed open/closed?
I'll have to take carb off again to sort it out as you cant get to anything with filter base on to adjust.
My flipping 4 stroke Ryobi strimmer is a bit like that, it'll start and then run but as soon as I take my finger off the trigger it stalls and I have to restart it, which is bleddy ockard. Like your's it's a little stick problem. Shame as it's the most comfortable one we've got wiv bicycle handlebars and everything so much less vibes.
Luckily we don't need to strim an awful lot.
