My dad and a mate went on an official Intourist touring holiday to Russia once, it must have been in the mid 70s. They flews over 3000 miles just in the USSR.

They had an Intourist "guide" with them except when they were able to go exploring on their own. He travelled all over Russia and would pop a baby aspirin or a saccarine tablet when with a girl telling them it was "the male pill that he got from the West!"
They changed hotels almost every day, first thing they did was unscrew the mouthpiece (or was it earpiece) on the phone and disconnect the bug!
They always had conversations outside the window so what they said was covered by traffic noise.
They complained that restaurants closed at lunchtimes so the staff could have a lunch break! And came back not wanting to eat I think it was cucumber ever again.

If it started raining, all the cars driving along would stop, their owners would jump out and fit the windscreen wipers, as due to shortages they just couldn't get new ones, so it they left them fitted they would walk!

As you say lots could be and probably is written about it!

Well it wasn't actually cos the Krauts blew it up and all the others on the canal at/near Arles as they ran away. But they left one. This was then relocated to a different site as the original site would have been too difficult. So at least one can go and see it, or one like it!

Guid afternoon
Lazy morn but been gym this afternoon.
Checked my weight before I started 65 kg exactly, and after an hour's blood sweat n tears was 64.7 kg.
Geez need to sweat less as I'm trying to put on a couple of kilos.
Mm doughnut n coffee might help !

I agree that my being out of the UK is abnormal, but they have both my email address and the mobile number. They have used both. But, lack of joined up thinking, they haven't told the hospital to use either of these, so they just did as normal and posted it. Dottir lives 40 minutes away, rang her, she was just off to send us a parcel of post picked up Fridi, she opened it all up, nothing there. Can't get through to the hospicle on the phone all lines busy cannot even be put on hold. Did get through to dermatology Christchurch but the wimmins I spoke to simply said a letter would be posted and couldn't tell me when or what was in it. she said "I'm just on the ward". which meant nothing to me. I dunno even which of two hospitals is dealing with it.
So did yet another "econsult" with my practice.
Very frustrating.

I got a text message to confirm me ospital appointment. Assuming they have the right number for you yer should still gerrit even if not in range. Yer gerrit when yer phone next connects. Eye believe yer gp practice puts yer forward for the next step, burrits the ospital that arrange the appointment. If no text so far then no appointment booked one would assume. My letter arrived after me appojntment, it were so quick.

After ringing the outpatients number on and off all afternoon to be told the queue was full and call back, I am now number 2 in the queue!!!
UDH don't send texts to confirm, wish they would, the GP practice have already fast tracked for me to get a Dermatologists appt. This is the one I need to find out when it is.

anyway, once through to the nice lady she put lots of things on my "notes" one of which is that I'd like a phone message about the appr time. Another was that I'd like a telephone or maybe a zoom-type consultation.

I don't think thay would as at the border control when I was there you had to exchange a minimum of Dm 100 at a exchange rate of 10 to 1 and a value of 1 to 10 no foreign currency accepted at shops . Same as when I went to China you only had tourist money and could only spend it in certain shops how the World has changed
