Doesn’t seem to be many all black around, every one I looked at had the two tone, my other half isn’t to keen on the two tone, told her you don’t see the seat when sat in it 😂. Whichever interior you get there super comfy and just a nice place to be.
Jumped back in the td6 to move it earlier and felt heavy and hard work to move compared to the effortless power of the 4.2.

I looked at a few 2 tone, my missus didn't like them either 😕

Must be a woman thing, I do think they look better in person than on pictures. Sometimes though we can’t have exactly what we want within a limited budget, I looked at a few some tarted up some obviously rotten etc, this one came up and got good vibes off the seller, could see he was honest, had 4 Pirelli tyres not some random Chinese stuff etc, like I say it needs arches painting, new rear brakes (mainly handbrake really) and knock off the rust underneath as it’s been parked over grass for a while so very flaky but solid so I’ll do like I did with my td6, chipping hammer and wire brush then hot Waxoyl and it gets them half decent, also need to sort rear exhaust heat shield as that’s just sat on top of exhaust, my td6 one is only held on with one or two nuts now.

Sounds very much like mine except its in for rear prop and gearbox service tomorrow 😅

Know what you mean r.e budget, I'd decided on a 4.2 (I do about 6k a year) but couldn't find one in as good a condition as a 3.6 for same money

I do two to three times that milage but companies I do for pay the fuel and it’s full cost not say 15p per mile etc, once job is done I say how much it’s cost so not fussed over fuel, however I’d been put off the 3.6 by the worrying about of ones for sale for spares or repairs with words like “no power won’t start suspected turbos” or “turbos failed, had tested requires new engine” I’d sooner pay more petrol for a thirsty but generally more reliable set up, hopefully long term it will pay off.
Think all modern diesels are as bad or worse, mates Ford ranger (17 reg) 3.2 he used to brag it’s better on fuel than my td6 but my td6 keeps going his is never out of garage, other week it’s was an injector and adblue heater, no saving on fuel once you start with things like turbos or injectors.

Yeah, mines privately fueled 😅 At my mileage, I worked it out that a 4.2 would only be about 200-300 a year more to run than the tdv8 after fuel cost, tax ins etc.

Like you say, diesel prob gonna need more maintenance as well so it would realistically prob be cheaper going petrol. So I was definitely sold on one. But like I said, at my budget it would've been a bit of a pup.

Main thing on tdv8 is egr delete and drain the secondary sump every oil change, maybe check turbo drain pipes are clear.

Not too concerned about the turbos, its got good history regular oil changes, they'll either go or they won't. No point losing sleep. If they do i'll fix it or break it for spares and get a 4.2 😆

Moms chaps got a 2.0 tdci kuga, I've done injector seals and replace 2 injectors for him, egr taken off and cleaned properly. Otherwise its been OK. Too much gubbins on them now for clean exhaust. Heard loads of bad stuff about the rangers, especially the 2.2

I'm not going to do egr delete, but what's the secondary sump? Something i need to do?

And what about turbo drain, is that easy to check or an engine strip?
Yours is 4.4?

Youu've got a dpf it needs to be all up together anyway

Pretty sure you don't have the 2nd sump plug as well, but double check. On 3.6 its just a small reservoir in the sump so turbos have got oil feed off road. You should have an evap tube in the oil filler hole for suction emptying actually. If you have a look, its just another sump plug at the back of the sump, from memory its on the side of the sump, rather than bottom facing down if you get me

Aint looked at turbo drain pipes on mine yet but it's something I want to check. I do know there was a recall or tsb on the 4.4 tdv8 for a turbo oil drain mod, have a search on fullfatrr.co.uk, they've prob got something on the forum wiki 👍🏻

yep 4.4 with dpf.. understand egr helps with exhaust temp management

re. the turbo.. the 2nd turbo does a puff of smoke the first time its used, after that its clear. the primary turbo is always clear. neither make any unusual noises i can hear. I've read about 'turbo drain mod' which 'usually' clears it, but not guaranteed and not cheap.. asked an indie and he said dont worry about it.. so i dont

Absolutely, just enjoy it 😀

whats a good oil change interval on the 4.4? the given 15,000 miles seems a bit mean to me, or is the oil really that good?
I was thinking doing an oil only change at 7-8k, not resetting the service interval than doing the next oil change with the oil filter and a reset?
