and apparently them clogging up isn't necessarily just due to not having long runs from time to time. It could be a symptom of other underlying problem(s).

Well if it is part of the deal then it really shouldn't be an issue, should it? Then you can read up on it once you get it.

Yes I've heard a seized egr valve can cause dpf problems too

A battery powered one. I bought an air driven chisellling tool many years ago, a very good tool but having to faff with an extension cable and air lines was a nuisance, and my small compressor didn't have enough tank to keep it running for long and had to wait for it to refill all the time. Last year I bought a battery drill, the cable powered drill is now retired. Don't know why I didn't get one years ago. (I do really, I'm a tight wad ).

Why do you want a air powered recip saw? I think all air powered tools are too noisey and you need to fire up a compressor. My electric one is fine but I sometimes use my chainsaw just for the fun of it.

I'm a tight wad too as many on here are aware!
But this will be a pressy from my daughter and her noo husband. Airpowered ones are cheaper and I already have the compressor with a biggish cap tank, so am all set up really. but I can see that if I was going to go in the house with it a batt one might be better. The compressor is already in the garage so if I wanted to work with it on the bench it'd be just fine.

got up a bit late as the weather is totally sh!t.

Air-powered reciprocating saws:
lighter,
cheaper, even the best quality ones cost less than the cheapest batt or corded
can get into smaller places
don't need to charge batts which also wear out eventually.
electric ones get hot.

Yes they need a compressor with decent air delivery, I've already got one.
Yes they are noisy but then all are, at least I can shut the door on the compressor so the only noise will be the saw itself, and I'll be using it out doors mostly, or in the garage workshop where its noise would only bother me and I can wear ear muffs.
This is why I want one.
Also with money saved I could buy other air powered tools like a die grinder, which can be fitted with a thin circular saw blade for fine work.
So what do people think? Sealey?
