So is it a case of either dial guage or modulation? Or set with dial guage and then adjust for modulation?
Can you please tell me about injection set point/actual?
I use the dial gauge to get an approximate setting, then I check the modulation at 95C and make an adjustment usning a steel rule to measure the FIP position and then calculate the movement needed to get the modulation correct.
For the moment you can ignore the setpoint/actual or you will just confuse the issue.
I'm beginning to think I've maybe had the pin in the wrong hole
I'll have another go tomorrow and set modulation at 95 deg. water temp.
Thanks again everyone

I did the timing on my son's like this,
I followed Keith's advice at the temp he suggested and then tapped the pump towards the engine block until I arrived at the 50%mark. Maybe not everyone's cup of diesel tea but it worked for us.
