Abs fault ( the lemon strikes again)

If the warning lights have gone out then there's no current error. When the pedal alternates, do you hear the abs in action?
I've felt what you've described, though only at low speed. Abs locks the pedal because it thinks the car is slipping and doesn't allow further pressure to be added which makes it feel like I'm on ice

The lights go out and then the fault appears as soon as I brake - abs is definitely kicking in as it doesn't allow any further pressure to be added on the pedal but I have to keep the pressure on because I do actually want to stop and eventually pedal will give and apply the brakes. I get the abs & traction messages in the information centre on the dashboard. In 6 years of ownership I don't ever recall the abs ever activating and never had ABS or TC warning messages on the dash. This has only started happening since the sensor swap. It's still got the original WABCO sensors on the rear. I have to brake well in advance of where I wish to turn or stop now. It's not sticking calipers or sliders as I replaced the front caliper carriers with new ones when I did the balljoints as I noticed the bottom slider had seized on both carriers. I also had the rear hubs and calipers off and checked them when I did the rear backplates. Like I said my local MOT place's diagnostic kit came up with faulty o/s/f abs sensor or connection faulty and I've got 5v at the loom end.

It does sound like it's related to the reluctor ring
Logically if the landrover specialist gets a dodgy waveform on the osf and then swaps the front sensors over and still gets a dodgy waveform on the osf, it can't be anything else than reluctor can it, unless some of the wiring goes to the BECM and that's dodgy ?
And of course, if it turns out that it is the reluctor ring then he misdiagnosed it as dodgy sensors in the first place and cost me £117 for nowt.

I'll see what the Landrover Specialist comes up with tomorrow with his diagnostic kit. He can check the waveform on his oscilloscope. If sensor checks out (5v dc at loom already has) then I think its going to be a case of pulling the hub & halfshaft and probably changing the reluctor ring. Can't imagine that it can be anything else.
Wheel bearing

I cannot recall if the pdeal goes hard when the ABS kicks in. Mine hardly ever kicks in. If it doesn't then I begin to wonder what state the modulator washers / springs are in.

Much cheaper to pull the hub & driveshaft than keep replacing sensors. Mine were working ok, but when I did the hub ball joints, the reluctor rings definitely needed a clean. Also had to drill out the old rusty sensors, so got the expected faults when I ran the engine to raise the body.

One the new aftermarket sensors were fitted all faults cleared & stayed that way. These are what I used.

if i remember when mine last kicked in and thank god it did, the pedal sort of pulses and feels lick its kicking back at you, but was quite a few years ago now.

Finally diagnosed as a cracked reluctor ring.
Pedal should pulsate - like the abs in my granada with a similar system i.e. pump, accumulator and pressure switch and modulator - Teves mk II system.

So with a cracked it messes about randomly, well at least hopefully it will be fixed :)
