Morning all, i had worked away for a while and as a result my 2 1/4 series 3 petrol has sat doing nothing. i replaced a few parts that were a bit tired looking including the Coil, HT Leads, Distributor Cap and Arm (electronic), New Weber carb, re-crimped a couple of suspect wires. it just refuses to start, it turns over, all be it a bit slowly, it has always taken a while to catch, i think the starter motor is a bit slow. i even tried the hand crank this morning and it's still having none of it. i admit i am now a bit lost as to what to do, aside from getting it towed to a garage. does anyone on here live local to Basildon in Essex that would be able to cast their eyes over it, to see if there is anything blatant i am missing.
cheers.
Jon.

I have pumped the fuel pump by hand and filled a fuel can by doing it, perhaps the mechanical side of it isnt working, is it a common failure point. I'll whip it off and have a look, willbi have to empty the tank to remove the pump, not a lot of fuel in there at the moment.

Just focus on the basics then i e spark, fuel blocked jets etc. old petrol ain’t the best.

Stale petrol, or low pressure fuel pump stuck, is it mechanical or electric?
I have pumped the mechanical fuel pump by hand and filled a 5 litre can with it, then replaced the fuel with 5 litres of Super, there wasn't a lot in the tank, that was about a month ago, it pumps by hand as it should, resistance followed by slackening once pressurised.

Bit late to the party but I don't see anywhere that you have fully recharged the battery with a battery charger or tried it with another fully charged known good battery.
Time of year that finds out dead & dying batteries - I've just put a new one on my Sprinter as I was having starting issues in the morning (slow cranking, even after a charge)& once the new one was fitted it was quite obvious that the old one had been on its way out for a while.

Hi, thanks for your reply, the battery is new, i think the starter motor might be turning a bit on the slow side, something else to investigate.

I always put a.dribble of petrol straight down the throat of the carb, this usually makes the engine run for a couple of seconds, if that doesnt work I suspect electrics.
