right, getting a lot of diesel in the engine oil (checked the oil 5 mins ago and it 3 inches above the max mark) oil was changed a month and a half ago and i'm sure i left it just below max.
is it possible that the lift pump could be leaking through the operating lever into the block and into the oil or am i gonna have to get really ****ty and start stripping stuff down.
the engine runs spot on, no loss of water, no smoke except a tiny bit on start up.
the only other thing i can think of is i was running it on veg oil but stopped using it after the sedimenter got blocked. could the veg oil have destroyed the seals in the lift pump?
ta in advance

No I think it sounds likely it is the lift pump, if the rings were that worn it would not be running spot on.

It is common for a lift pump to dump fuel into the block if the diaphragm splits, I have seen it on a Bedford truck before and it would raise the engine oil an inch in about a minute. Some pumps have a little hole to let diesel escape but this can get blocked and some don't have it. I would get a new pump then change the engine oil, if too much diesel gets in and it is then run it will not lubricate properly, but it will have given the oil ways a good clean out!

sorry red but i gotta go with dicomania on this one (it sounds alot cheaper that a strip down). if it was rings or bore then surely it would run like crap. will get a replacement tomorrow and replace the oil again, how is it any little job i do ends up with me underneath it full o crap and oil?
