Yes the wooden furniture has cushions so not so bad, plus they are usually under a brolly cos the sun is so hot. Must look at getting a new brolly we are trying to get 1 of the really big ones used in pub gardens.
We have some of that misting hose and nozzles hanging around the edge and that helps alot:).

J
Never was aware it got that feckin hot in your neck of the woods! We have special cushions on the steamer chairs, but if you forget!!.......
We had one of those brollies that hangs over from the side, you have to weight it down with four slabs. Bally thing bruk so I repaired it, made it stronger than original, then got a tiny tear, Wifey didn't want it, so took it to a place that flogs stuff off for charity, they wouldn't look at it as it was "damaged". Huh!:mad:
But yes, one of those huge ones we find restaurants using, or maybe more than one, would be brill!

... I am beyond mildly cross.
Wife visits Son (where I have toiled all week) to be told that he has not enough money to do the rest of the required works.
She comes home with "we have to help them" and "we should lend them the money".
This is the same pair that cost me £16k to renew the lease in their last but one place so they could even sell it.; and who just had to have a £15k wedding that they could not pay for and still owe me £13,500 on (after 2 years).
I told the wife I was not interested in burning through my money so he could keep his dozy tart of a wife "happy".
I am sorry to report that loud and angry words have been exchanged.
My suggestion that "if we keep on meekly giving, that cnut will happily keep on taking" did not go down well.
I am rather fed-up.

I can't like the post but I am with you. We have been through similar recently and now I will not bale them out. Some day we won't be around to bale em out so they will have to learn one day!
It is hard when they are your own but constant hand outs don't do anyone any good :(

Mate I cannot agree with you too strongly.
I would be more than fed up. I would be incandescent.
I'm biting my tongue a bit here.:mad::mad::mad::mad:
In fact a lot.
So will have to rely on the unoriginal "cut your coat according to your cloth".
Personally I can see absolutely no reason for, or justification for, such selfish behaviour. Just because you happen to be related does not mean all your cash should go his way with little chance of it coming back.
A friend of mine once lent a "mate" £15k because otherwise he was going to "lose his house". This guy was an absolute prick who, together with his mrs was incapable of living within his income. So we discussed it and I suggested that if he really wanted to "lend" him the money he do it legally with a charge on his house, etc. He did do this. Blokey went bankrupt and after the mortgage company etc took their chunk, there was nothing left for my friend. Very tough lesson learned.
We had to do similar with out middle daughter once. But did get the money back. I was not happy, but have never had to do it again.
Best of luck with all this mate, arguing with the spouse over money is horrible. A lesson I learned from my Dad, and a method for how to avoid it when married. He was right and thus had no rows with my ex over it nor with Wifey.:):):)

Wow.
Sorry i did like it because it had to be said. Sorry the missus doesn't see your side.

I fully agree when times are really hard (do the youngster know that) then help:). when its a case of having to live with a bomb site for another quarter till his next "bonus" let them get used to it, its not the end of the world.
I will take a picture of our "bedroom" if you want to show him how those that work for what they want live with:D

Go buy some petrol and buy the missus some flowers, then have a calm chat:).

Indeed.
A bone of contention here is that I pay half my pension money onto our "joint account" and the other half into my own personal account at another bank.
The reason I do this is because when I say "No", the kids go round me to their mother and she then "helps" with money from our "Joint Account". Which rather upsets me.
Why do you have accounts I have no access to? is a common question she asks, to which the answer is.... "Because YOU unilaterally decide to 'gift' the kids £1,000 ea. at Xmas without even consulting me" and the like.
If she had her way all my hard-earned would just get siphoned off to make her little darling's lives perfect.
The fact that we both get £700/month govt pension but she only has £250 a month occupational pension and I have £30k p.a. pension means I am financing over 80% of our expenditures.
So of course I want control. :) Wimmins. Can't live with 'em, can't kill 'em. ;)

If any of you were upset that the final episode of "Viewpoint" was dropped because of the allegations against the star of the serie, then be aware it is available (for a short time) on the ITV "Hub". Becuase the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and the woke brigade have forgotten there is a hub service.

I managed a few hours on "ME" DIY today.
My window-sills/cills are all in place. :)
The LH wall is going to be faced with reclaimed scaffold-boards (pressure-washed of their dirt, and charred to bring out the graining), so I anticipate a sill/ledge on that wall of the same stuff.
Onwards and downwards sideways upwards. :)

For anyone who is interested in my Dad's foolproof system for marital harmony to do with money, here it is, for what its worth.

Both partners sit down and, based on annual expenditure, work out how much it costs to live for a year.
Open a joint bank account purely for this, so it pays all bills, food, services, house insurance, mortgage, car insurance etc either for the one joint car or both cars if you need one each. There will need to be a bit of negotiation on this but it isn't too difficult in the end.
So you will come to an annual figure, divide this by twelve, this is what needs to be paid into it per month.
Take both your incomes and as they will be different work out the ratio of one to the other, then pay into the joint account in this ratio from each of the partner's sole account.
This way each pays the bills in ratio to what they earn, the rest becomes pocket money. so the highest earner pays the most but also has the most pocket money.
You can also set up a savings account and again pay in an agreed amount, each month, again in the same proportions.
We did this and it works a dream if unexpected expenses crop up.
We have found this method works like a dream.

BUT it does tend to work best where each partner has a reasonable income. If the balance of incomes between both partners is wildly different it cannot work as the one who earns the least will constantly feel cheated.
For most of our working lives Wifey earned twice what I earned, but bizarrely now my pension is better than all of hers. But we still stick to it and it still works.
It even worked when my ex and I divided the spoils of our divorce in proportion to what we had done for the 7 years of our marriage. And yes we did keep books, again summat taught me by my Dad the accountant!
I leave this with you while I run and get my steel helmet!;)
And Dan in your shoes I would have done exactly what you did!

Thanks for this Mate, we were watching it!;)

Ta!
q. My 3-jaw scroll-chuck seems to have a decent accuracy/centricity (c.1..3 thou') depending on the moon/stars etc. The 4-jaw independent I have bought will need to be "dialled in" EVERY TIME I use it.
For just general stuff, is the 4-jaw overhead really worthwhile?

Answers on a postcard TO: "I don't know what I am doing with this little lathe"

A 4 jaw is invaluable when machining odd shapes or square stock. Also, if you are doing something precision it is the best solution. I hold an ER32 collet chuck in mine to get repeatability on round stock. Yes it is worth the investment if you take the time to learn how to use it!!
