P38A ERG boost valve

It doesn't. They are fitted to variable rate turbos to change the angle of the drive blades and gain more boost at lower RPM.
Mine hasn't got one,its a pre EGR engine. @Biglad2222 please post the photo you pmed me.it wasn't very clear but I think it shows one mounted by the small inline filter which i believe you were originally asking about. As I said far better posting on the open forum and not by PM you will reach a wider audience.

Variable rate turbos and EGR are seperate functions and not connected in operation.

That's not what I was surgesting Tony if he posts the photo you will see what looks like the part titled.If you search for P38 range rover turbo boost solenoid valve on the Bay you will find them listed,@Enthusiastman even bought one,I haven't got one and have no idea what they are for. Hope your feeling better today,speak soon.;)

No P38 was ever fitted with a variable rate turbo charger and have no electrical parts fitted to the turbo. If you can find the photo I will tell you what the component is and what it does. Bit better thanks, the pressups and star jumps seem to be working. :D;)
 
Only thing I can think of that they could be refering to on a P38 is the EGR vacuum solenoid. This is used by the ECU to activate and control the operation of the EGR valve. But it has nothing at all to do with pressure boost. It would appear there are people about who don't have a clue how the system works. And just sprout utter crap.
 
If there's a solenoid involved then presumably you could modify the waste gate and get a bit more boost although you'd have to be careful not to overdo it.
I have explained the EGR function on the P38 several times. The later versions on vehicles fitted with variable rate turbos are far more complex. I have also explained how these work. I do not intend to repeat it all again.

Who's talking about EGR? Or indeed variable rate turbos? The question was whether you could jury-rig something to control the wastegate and change where and how much boost you get. Presumably you could tee something off the MAP line and then it would need an ECU of some-sort to control the solenoid acting on the waste-gate. Personally I wouldn't bother but it looks like someone was trying to boost performance.
 
I wanted a bigger gate on my turbo...... Just had issues fitting it...

Typical happy amatuers playing with things they know nothing about. A more simple way would be to increase spring pressure on the waste gate. There is plenty of boost if all is woking correctly, leave it as it is.

Possibly. Just because you or I wouldn't do it doesn't mean someone else wouldn't. For a lot of people tinkering is a hobby to take their mind off their real job / problems. Maybe they will read here and learn. On the other hand, if just a stiffer spring gave all that benefit then why come up with all the variable vane stuff? I can see why. I can also see how electronically controlled injection and variable cam timing can help performance. The question is how much you want to tinker and what the payoff is. And the expense if it all goes wrong, of course. But then people learn from their mistakes. Hopefully.

Perhaps you would like to tell us exactly what a ERG boost valve is and it's function?
