I recently asked lots of questions in relation to changing my engine,which I finally got round to this week.thanks to all the advice it went smoothly and now I have another question...
Replacement engine runs smooth but there is a flat spot when you press the the accelerator.just when you first press the pedal nothing for about half inch then it's fine..just a bit of a dead area when you first press the pedal when your moving or at standstill.
Any guess as to why....

can you define that in rpm ??
i.e. in absolute stock mode .. go pedal response below 1750 rpm be not-so-great ..

flat spot on the td4 be often related to the condition of the maf sensor
and the airflow across it ..

no doubt .. could be a diff. cause for a flat spot ..

any other related symptoms .. ??

What engine?
04 td4 freelander .. [ via op's earlier posts ]

Oh yeah .its o4 freelander 2l td4(bmw)
It seems to be a pedal travel issue.when you depress the pedal there is no response for about an inch of pedal movement then its revs fine and drives fine.its purely just a dead area of pedal play.

nothing for about half inch
there is no response for about an inch of pedal
:D

`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
that's how i remember mine being when i 1st got it [ at. 37k miles ]
all i can say .. improving it were mainly down to paying attention
to the air intake route .. and its' various components ..
as it's directly related to how much fuel the ecu will allow to be injected
e.g. sluggish hot air over maf sensor would = small fuel injection allowance from the ecu
`````````````````````````````````````````

then there's the fuel system .. and related sensors ..
as to lack of go-pedal response ..
cleaning the fuel rail sensor plug be a start ..

```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
didn't you just change the engine ??
[ i don't keep up with various threads ]
```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

Any chance of live diagnostics to prove the pedal is working at that point?
+1 to that .. ::cool::

The pedal is made up of two hall sensors which send a pair voltages to the ecu so it's not likely to be pedal related or the car would throw an error.

Yep. Replacement engine which is a massive improvement over the old.it runs and drives great.when your on the move you dont really notice it .but when you go to pull off it's really obvious.
I'll try putting my original maf sensor on and clean up some connections and see how that works.

Right so changed maf sensor and all seems good.not been on a long run just up and down the lane but definitely feels better so thanks again everyone.
Now does anyone have any suggestions for cleaning oil out of the exhaust system as I cant take it for a long run as not mot,d yet.

Quite a bit of old gunky oil.turbo had gone and previous owner just kept on using it...
Actually poured out about half a litre.

Park it on a steep hill and rev the sh1t out of it.

Maybe :p

When my TD4 bust it's hp pump seals, there was a load of crap in the exhaust and the garage (yes, it went to a garage just this once!) left it ticking over for 12 hours and some shops had to close up due to the smoke !!! Garage, incidentally, diagnosed it wrong and has to be guided, but got the hp changed for free due to the work that they did unnecessarily !!!

Let it run for a bit it is then.just wondering if they could be flushed out with something like engine degreaser or similar.
Without exhaust it doesn't smoke at all which is great as it smoked like hell with the old engine.but put the old exhaust on and its really smokey and just trying to save a few quid and not have buy a new one.
