Morning, I'm totally confused, I'm replacing the cylinder heads on my d1 v8i. Every thing going well till I try to remove my rocker covers! What bloody size is needed to remove the 4 little bolts on each cover.
Well I'm trying all the sockets in my tool chest a discovery not one fits aghhhhhhh.
So please anyone know what size is needed or special tool I don't know but I'm ready to chuck my tools out my pram.
Hope your all safe and well

Are they not 10mm & you need a muilt hex socket not a 6 sided socket.

Chuffing looks like previous owner has rounded them aghhhhh. The things I've worked on while doing her up the past 2and a half years it's always the same. The guy was a total butcher with a peanut for a brain.

Feel your pain. Rocker covers never need doing up that tight if they and their gasket are put on properly.
Bet the tw@t had a leak and was just so stupid he thought he could cure it just by doing the bolts up a bit tighter. If they are that fu cked you may need those special sockets that tighten down on anything, can't remember where I got mine, but they aren't too bad, or you will have to be brutal with the next size down maybe imperial, hammer the fu cker on then undo. ailing that it'll mean real careful buthcery with a dremel or summat to cut the heads off then get the bolts out once the rocker cover is off.
Do hope you manage it!:(:(:(

Just noticed you from the same county as us. We are in France at the mo but the South east corner of Dorset when in the UK. If you was near I could lend you those sockets! Shame we aren't for a while!

You're right I am not that familiar with my V8 D1 having not had to do much to it since I bought it!
Anyway, my other advice seems to have been given before
See this

and this

And this, closer to home!

So I hope that is a bit more helpful.
And if he still can't get them undone????????

Buy new rocker covers and butcher the old one?

Hope not!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Good evening guys, well what a bloody mare that was:( .
But the landy gods were with me and got the buggers out.
Then came the head bolts! People should have to do a course on how to treat nuts and bolts!
Got 19 out with some serious huffing and cursing :) but OMG the bottom row of 5 the one near fire wall on passenger side took me nearly 3 hours to undo as previous owner clearly tried and failed to undo before as it had rounded edges on most of the bolt. I really felt deflated , so had a smoke swore like a Irish navi and had everything crossed hoping I could get it out.
Like I said took 3 hours small little movement on it every time even put some solder on the edge which helped. So it's all off , I haven't got a steam cleaned bore or piston head and liners where they should be. What I do have is a possibility of cracked head! But I sort of predicted it due to how she over heated .so I have 2 nice ones all checked ready to go.
Would It be wise to replace push rods and hydraulic lifters while she is all opened up?
Thank you for your help steamy and you to discool. Keep safe and well and hope to meet up off road one day

Only replace the pushrods and lifters if you're doing a Cam..

Never put new lifters on an old cam..

14 bolt heads, only do the bottom row of 4 headbolts up to 25nm..
