screeching brakes

Hi

My Rangy (2013 hse sport) has started to screech when I apply the parking brake.

Anyone have any ideas please.

If it is an electronic brake, it could be the actuating motor screeching. Not knowing how they work my only suggestion would be to seek the advice of a garage to inspect it!

Guessing here,is the parking brake operated in a drum which is part of the brake disc? If so I guess you are operating the parking brake whilst still moving. Is it an electronic handbrake? I can only surgest stripping and cleaning, the brakes of course

Plus 1, the EPB needs adjusting , when the shoes are out of adjustment the cable tries to apply them, there’s a force sensor inside the EPB module, which senses it and releases the brakes because the cable has become too tight , which can also strip the plastic gears inside the module

do not use the EPB until it’s fixed

have enclosed a pdf of how to adjust them, indeed best to strip them down, good clean and adjusted correctly

u also need to either enter the special program or use a diagnostics , is called a dismount program, it releases the shoes to its maximum

also mentioned if u don’t wish to do it urself go to a garage

If it squeals while you are driving, then time to look at brake adjustment and cleanliness....

The fact he says it squeals when he puts on the parking brake, I would assume the vehicle is stationary and as such, it is the mechanism that is squealing rather than the disc/pads/shoes/drum.

plus 1, noise is normally from the module as it tries to apply the brakes but can’t lock into place because normally the shoes are out of adjustment

also the small cogs inside can strip, good thing is the cogs can be bought in there own

know some have replaced the entire module at great expensive
