stupid question 04 freelander

hi all

i own a 2004 freelander td4 . i have a water leak. Ive managed to locate it but cannot for the life of me work out what pipe it is in any manual ive come across. i have a digital copy of the workshop guide but still cannot work it out.

i can try to describe the location but doubt it ill help lol .

Its at the front of the engine coming from the block towards the radiator . it only looks like maybe a 5-6 inch straight pipe but from the looks of it to get to it i need to remove most of the top of the engine covers.

my question is does anyone have a actual pipe layout or can point me in right direction to find one so i can get this replaced. Im also from australia so parts can be limited over here.

Any help would be awesome

It sounds like the top hose outlet stub is leaking. It's a common BMW problem, where cheap crap plastic has been used instead of decent metal.

I recognise that picture.

This is what you need.

It goes here (centre of picture)(inlet manifold removed for clarity)

If Aus is anything like here on the other side of the ditch, most of my parts I buy from UK suppliers. Its usually still much cheaper even after adding in the courier costs and gets here in a few days.

These days I tend to use https://www.lrdirect.com/, but there's various to choose from.

That part for example is under $40 for the genuine LR part and $30 for aftermarket (surprisingly little difference on that bit).

Is it a easy fix ??? I cannot find any walkthroughs or guides online or in the manual. Do I need to remove whole top end of motor to acces this part?? I’ve ordered a new one should be here Friday

It's an hours work at most for a decent mechanic, and not much more for a DIYer. You only need to remove the intake manifold, which should be removed periodically for cleaning anyway. The actual part that fails only takes a few minutes to replace.
I don't know of a guide, but it's not really needed, as there's nothing particularly difficult about the job.

No. The manifold is sealed with synthetic polymer O rings and gaskets, which are suitable for reuse.

The coolant outlet pipe will come with a new polymer gasket.

Alright job done . Took it for a drive got it up to temp no leaks of water . Was easier then I thought . Just one more dumb question upon coming back from drive I noticed oil dripping from bottom and sprayed through one side of engine bay up top . Could this have been caused by me missing one bolt that holds the plastic cover onto motor ?? It seemed to come from that area

If the circled bolt is missing, then oil will spray out.

Yeah that was the bolt. All fixed now . Thank you for all your help it made the job so much easier . There was a tiny crack in the water connector near the bottom of it . Stupid plastic parts . Thanks again mate

They normally fail something like this.
