Red Diesel

My 90 year old Pop reckons you can buy red diesel. Does anyone else use it, which petrol stations sell it, and could it knacker my engine? 550 quidish a month is my fuel bill with the new job, and I only get 48p a mile from my work base which is 20 miles away

Your pop is correct
No it wont knacker your engine
Google or local knowledge will get you the red
Its illegal to use on UK roads

and one of those has just been caught at the garage filling jerry cans from the red pump,whilst the vosa van was parked there, obviously his landy tank was full of red too,as they found out when they dipped it, what a plonker

yes as far as i understand, buying two jerry cans of red whilst your landy has red in the tank doesnt look like a one off

I often buy red while in the landrover, then go and put it in the boat... That's legal...

Thought better of it anyway. Now I'm taking butties to work the monthly fuel bill is like a normal car and canteen food everyday. Losing a bit of flab too :0)

Techincally yes and no and Iirc its now meant to be 60/40 the 60 being white and the 40 being red which is assumed to be used for heating and running engines for hot water etc.
Was a big thing on the canal forums a year or two back, but havent heard anything recently
Quite a few eu countries get very upset with uk boats being run on red.

Even so I still do the same as you, but if the man is watching you just remember to say its for heating cooking.

Yes you can buy it...for non-road use.
No you can't (legally) use it on the road unless you're a farmer going between fields etc.
