Deepest Darkest...
Dear All, new member here...I've been wanting a simple soft top 90 for an age but was struggling to find an 'honest' 90 as too many are either in very poor condition and/or have been messed around with. So this old girl arrives at home on Monday evening...a solid 90 soft top with 200tdi and a few extra bits to make her interesting. Not sure if the Safety Devices Roll Cage looks a little 'Lara Croft' but I'll happily live with the thought of meeting Lara in her canvas hot pants :) Rgds, v8250

Welcome:)

Certainly looks tidy although a tad clean:eek:

If it’s as good underneath, looks like you got a good one

Enjoy.

Thanks marjon, I like clean :) Underneath is super solid with only slight surface rust. Spent two hours inspecting before purchase. First job to do, steam clean underside and fully protect every box section and crevice with Bilt Hambers excellent body/chassis products. Then re-grease every suspension joint followed by a good tidy up of the engine bay as this has been neglected...then find some comfortable seats. And then adjust the passenger door...the fit is awful...

Your plan sounds good, also sounds like you did your homework and didn’t just rush in.

But :) if you want to really enjoy it, it’s gonna get dirty:eek:

Loads of knowledge on here from the guys when you need help/advice. And the search function is good (when it’s working:oops:) so loads of problems already covered.

Hi and welcome!

Fantastic looking Landy! Make sure you treat it to some decent security measures too to ensure she stays where she should.

thanks knappster, that too is on the list. My daily drive is a Subaru Forester XT that has an excellent aftermarket security system. Plan is to have the same team install the same system + may even fit a tracker of some sort as can see Land Rovers are really too easy to steal. Have also seen sturdy pedal boxes...and I like the idea of a clearly visible theft deterrent.

Welcome :)
I am green with envy that does look nice and i like the cage all that is needed is a bit of mud
trackers are good we have had a few recovered due to them fitted and visual stuff is good as well.

Guys, thank you for all the kind welcomes. Have read up on issues of poor LR security today so have ordered a heavy duty pedal box, gearlever lock, door hinge security plates and a SkyTag tracking system. The SkyTag system has some excellent reports, especially the tales of stolen and quickly recovered. I live in a low theft area but this lot should deter the average grunt :)

Interestingly, have been thinking about home security cameras over the past few months. I think now is the time to invest...

Welcome Aboard :) - Nice looking 90 - deffo need some security and glad to see you have this in hand as per Knappsters post :)

Spent two hours inspecting before purchase.

Wise man ;)

First job to do, steam clean underside and fully protect every box section and crevice with Bilt Hambers excellent body/chassis products.

Excellent stuff BH - Can't recommend it enough - both ours are so treated ... Dinitrol stuff is also good ....

Then re-grease every suspension joint followed by a good tidy up of the engine bay as this has been neglected...

Don't forget your prop UJ's - they'll thank you for it :D - Pics of this engine are now required ;) - themz the rulez :D

then find some comfortable seats. And then adjust the passenger door...the fit is awful...

Mazda RX7 ? - and if that door fit is what you class as awful  , then I really do want to see this engine bay :D

thanks disco, I did see threads mentioning the RX7/RX8 seats. I like their price point too...though am wondering about refurbs for mine with new foams et al + see below for engine bay + here's one of how I like my engine bays to be...

Dear All, latest update, it's been like Christmas at home with new security bits arriving c/o the Sainsbury's DPD pick up and a very efficient delivery service from Paddock Spares. So far heavy duty pedal cover [installed] and to install this week...X-Eng anti-smash ignition block, door security plates and the SkyTag unit. Further reading makes me think I should replace all locks and ignition with anti-smash barrels to make life as hard as possible should any 'errant types...' try to thieve. Interestingly, the cute brunette who served me in Sainsbury's mentioned she's an ex-Police Woman...I mentioned the Landy and SkyTag system parcel...she went on to explain how and why Defenders are stolen and the sheer numbers that are stolen on a regular basis. She said, first they're stolen for parts and/or overseas orders...then they're stolen for ram raid type offences where organised crime use three cars for the 'job'. The thieves have a std quick'ish car to travel quietly to the crime, a separate Landy and experienced driver for the 'heavy work' and a third car as the quick 'get-away' car. The first car is often used only once, the other two they keep for future 'jobs'. Really, everyday is a school day!
