Rear brake backplates FL1 not needed

Had rear brakes done on my '51 plate FL and bought new backplates. Turns out I didn't need them afterall and now I can't return them as they were special order! Genuine Landrover parts.
Wondered if anyone doing same job needs them? I am just looking to re-coup as much of the £155 they cost me, so I can pay my garage bill

Hi Amanda.
If you still have the receipt then any company have to take them back if it is under the 30day period of purchase by law, you have rights, so even if the garage ordered them for you they have to take them back if they are not needed, who did the job for you ?

Hi, thanks for your reply Arctic2. Well, a kind friend tried to do the job first to save me some money and took one look at everything rusty under there and said we ought to replace backplates. Long story short, the job was too much for him and so I had to limp it to the garage to sort out, who said in fact the back plates were still ok. It is within 30 days but the parts supplier were adamant they wouldn't take them back. Wouldn't even issue a credit note!
Do you think I still have a chance of returning them then, if I stood my ground more perhaps?

Yes phone them and stat your statuary rights which can be found easy, and see what they say, point out the change in the law from 2015

There are now clear time limits for you to ask for refunds, repairs or replacements:

• Refund: You can get a refund up to 30 days from when you bought the product, if it was from a UK seller. You can also get a repair or replacement if you prefer.
• Repair or replacement: You can get your product repaired or replaced up to six months from your purchase. The retailer has one chance to make the repair. If you're still unhappy, you then have a right to a refund.
• You can still get a repair or refund after six months, but the seller has the right to deduct some money for the use you've had from the product. You'll have to prove that it was faulty when you got it.

Thank you Arctic2 I will try ringing them again then! At least my old Landy is back on the road once more, to add a few more miles to it's 210,000

Just rang them again and they said yes I do have rights if it was an off the shelf item but as they were a special order they can't accept the return. They can't return them to their supplier he said.

Thanks Nandad, I just had a very quick look through that (I'll have a more thorough look after work, thanks) … on the complaint template I found it says 'The Consumer Rights Act 2015 states that goods should be as described, of a satisfactory quality and fit for the purpose' but these backplates are all of those, it's just I don't need them. Does this still apply? (I'll have a look at the Resolver Free Complaints Tool later, perhaps that will help me in this situation).
