L322 Tailgate ventilation

I would have to say they look like a good thing if you have too leave your dog in the car. As some reviews another window open a little maybe needed.
To me it looks like it would fit an L322, I would only check a couple of things, That is that the bottom hatch could not be opened even with car locked, as it’s a different setup to a p38, I am pretty certain it’s not possible but I know our dog has put paws on lower tailgate and opened it (admittedly car wasn’t locked)
Also that the hook could not be released from the lower latch by trying to close and jiggle the rod (of course you wouldn’t know that till you have 1, but they do a money back deal)

At the end of the day security? Who’s going to approach a car with a big GSD:) especially if no dog guard.:D
With a dog guard, Yes there will be some who could now break in to the front of the car (as some windows open).

But for me I have to say don’t take the dog if you are going somewhere you have to leave it in the vehicle.

The choice is your, for me in the uk I wouldn’t.

Not a bad idea for venting condensation also. If it was warm outside I don't think I would leave my two pooches in the car.. better off at home in the garden flat out on the grass..in the sun!!
;)

Oddly enough, the UK weather isn't predictable and it can go from a rainy morning to a warm afternoo
n. Also not everyone has the luxury of just leaving the dog at home. It is also not about something for when it's sunny/hot, it's about anything that might help , as soon as the temp goes past 'cool'.
Without being rude, I don't need 'advice' on what to do with a dog when it's sunny. I'm just after info, if anyone has used this particular gizmo.

Awaits , the thread being sidetracked with all the great advice images.jpeg

The L322 lower tailgate can be unlatched without electrical power.....aslong as the top tailgate is open that is

I know. Don’t think a dog could do that though:)
I was more worried about a dog paw between 2 flappy tailgates if the button does work. I don’t think it does “but”.

If the vehicle is locked, the lower tailgate button is disabled....

I wasn't thinking of the dog, I was thinking of dirty fingered little chavs breaking in!

You gonna put your fingers in a tailgate to do it with a big GSD or 2:) I wouldn’t
Still wouldn’t help if 2 tailgates tied together though unless they wanted to risk thier dirty fingers and reach in to get the top E release:).

Thanks, as always, Ant. Any grubby, human, paws trying to get in , are likely to come out faster than they went in ;) I've got a farm Collie, at the moment, and whilst she can be sweet and a little too submissive, at times, what she sees as hers, strangers may not go near images.jpeg She may yet turn out more protective than any of my GSDs tenor.gif
I currently open the sunroof and crack all 4 windows, when left , in anything but cold weather. Just wondered if the gizmo would 1: work with L322 tailgate and 2: be any better than the above method.
I'm not quite ready to put an air vent in the roof.images.jpeg

Out of interest I did some checks today my 2011 not sure same for older, but probably.
Test 1.
Unlock whole car.
Open upper tail gate and click lock shut.
Lower hatch still works.

Car will not lock on remote.

Test 2.
Unlock tail gate only from fob, so doors stay locked.
Open upper tailgate and click lock shut.
Lower tailgate button still works.
Close upper tail gate (still latched) as low as possible.
Reach in and operate lower tail gate.
Can also operate upper tail gate.
So the car has not sensed the upper tail gate being closed/locked as I can use the button a second time when normally, open on tail gate and close locks all again.

So to answer the original question that stick idea is not really suitable as the car/tailgate cannot be locked.

J

So would somebody be so kind and pass on to Goldie that the idea is a no as far a security or dogs accidentally operating lower tail gate.

Edit: please note that I did these tests wrong and only used the “ajar” setting of the lock. Push the lock further to the “fully” lock position and the whole car can be locked and made secure.
My mistake sorry:oops:

From the 2002-2005 operations description:

So (again) the later L322's may have a different operating logic....but on the early models, the lower tailgate button is only active if the upper latch is open as I alluded too in my above post:

If the vehicle is locked, the lower tailgate button is disabled....

I wasn't thinking of the dog, I was thinking of dirty fingered little chavs breaking in!

Ok @Saint.V8
I am going to have to back track and agree with you:)

In my test I only pushed lock to 1 click the “ajar” position the second click is further. And when latched fully then all can be locked as normal and no buttons work.

I will edit my post so as not to mislead.

I think I answered my own question today. I had a good look and can't see anywhere for the upper part to attach. So it's of no use on early L322s. Oh well. :(
