I'm going to secure my aux battery and DC to DC charger in the space left by removing one of the third row seats. So this morning I was trying to work out where to run the two 6 mm cables back from the starter battery. I didn't want to start drilling holes in the bulkhead and had more or less resigned myself to running them in a protective sheath along the chassis rails and up into the cargo area.
But then I spotted something I had never noticed before; that the large grommet that protects the main loom as it goes through the bulkhead has additional space above the loom and that there are two sealed nipples projecting towards the engine. Cutting the ends off, lubricating the cables and applying a fair amount of force and patience I was able to neatly route the cables into the cabin, under the tread plates, carpet and trim and invisibly into the louvered space behind the RHS rear lights. Perfect.
So 20 years ago Land Rover knew that one day I would want to fit an aux battery and designed in a way for me to do it. I'll bet they don't do things like that now.
Anyone know what they were actually designed for?

Mate, it's a Land Rover. You are supposed to modify them.
To clarify I have not cut into the loom at all. The aux battery setup will be completely separate to the vehicle wiring and have its own fuses, the only two connections will be at the positive terminal of the starter battery and an additional earth fitted to a nearby earthing point.

I was referring to the two rubber nipples..................LOL.
