If it's plastic like the P38 and needs to be replaced, hammer and chisel on the edge.

was wondering if I was to drill the top of cap and put two self tappers in and put a screwdriver across would that help.

On mine I used a very large pair of grips, fortunately I have pairs big enough that I use for work

Might drop swarf into the housing and I suspect they would just break out.
