Need to do a 2 hour drive in my 300tdi tomorrow, leaving the house at 8:00am.
This evening have unexpectedly had to replace the oil seal on the rear transfer box output shaft.
Looks like quite a lot of fluid has been lost (all over the chassis and when replacing the seal).
Tomorrow is Sunday so no shops will be open to buy the correct oil.
In the absence of said oil, would it be OK to use the "one shot swivel grease"?

My thinking behind this: In the Haynes manual, it lists the same fluids for the axles, transfer box and swivel housings.

The one shot grease I have doesn't give any specs, just says "replaces STC3435". It's gold in colour and has an oil consitency (unlike the grey grease used in the CV joints for example). Appreciate that's not much to go by which is why I'm asking.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Seems obvious now but at the time I was rushing and not thinking straight; before I went ahead and put some engine oil in, I dipped the transfer box to see how much oil was in it. Turned out there was still plenty so I just left it as is and waited until I could get the proper stuff.
The car made the journey and we had lots of fun!
