oil drain hole in sump guard

Hi all
Can some one please measure where i can cut the 3" hole
in the engine bay guard to drain the oil.

say from a fixed point or 2
so i can find the centre from which to drill said hole

Can't measure but maybe from the picture you get a better idea ?? Picture is taken from the middle of the car towards the front. The right hand corner in the guard and the two small holes, one just left of the cut and the other near the middle towards the front can give you amore or less accurate position I hope.

Word of caution to anyone else rushing out to the car with hole cutters.
The photo is of a Td4 taken from underneath looking forward which means the sump plug is in a totally diffrent position on the 1.8.

Just changed the oil & filter on mine today, Takes less than 5 mins to drop the lower tray off, 8 bolts !!

Easier this time with my newly acquired 36mm socket for the filter

Atleast then you can see whats going on underneath before the worst happens

Buy a pair of drive up ramps

Hasn't the car to be level to change the oil ?? (I know the plug is in the back of the engine and, when on ramps, in the lowest position but are you sure all the possible 'holds' of oil inside the engine are drained that way ??)

Not sure but considering fully syn oil is good for 15k and i change mine every 4-5k, if there is a bit left it aint going to make much difference, especially when the oil is warm
Its all in the sump after 15 mins standing anyway and the drain is at the back

Yes, you are right, when you allow the oil to drain for about 15 mins. and if what's kept inside is fully synthetic it will keep up with what it's supposed to do I guess. I tried a couple of weeks ago to loosen the two 10 mm bolts in the backpart of the guard (drilled in the subframe I think), but couldn't release them, have given them a good shot of WD40 so I hope by now the product has done it's job. Besides just bought a new 10 mm spanner today. (I tried it with an open spanner, which resulted the bolts started to get round so I stopped the attempts, now bought a ring spanner in the hope this will be better).

I always use me 6 point socket set 3/8 drive, Never failed

As a matter of fact I tried this afternoon to undo these two 10 mm screws closest to the middle of the car, on the right hand one I thought I was successful as the new spanner turned around but with a rather high resistance, no problem I thought so I pulled further but now it seems as I started to round the bolt. , the other one didn't move either but didn't insist that far as the first one, hope all these 6 corners are still intact. Bl......sh..
