Hi
I have an early Freelander (vin 1A341269) Which has the castlated abs ring on the hub. have replaced the shot CV joint with a later one (off a later vehicle) without the castlated ring and I now have my ABS light on all the time. does anyone know if I change the sensor for the later type, will this correct the problem or compound it?

Don't think you can do that as the two systems work in different ways. You might be able to fit an abs ring to your new cv and that could make it work

^^ as above. The newer sensor relies on a magnetised wheel bearing, so you’d have to change that too. Even then, the older ABS ECU may not recognise the signal.

You might get away with heating the old reluctor ring to remove and refit onto the new shaft, or just get another shaft. You won’t pass MoT with an ABS light on.

Just fit a new ring to the new drive shaft. They are available as a spare and cost very little. You can't swap the sensors about, as the wheel bearing, hub and ABS modulator are all different.

The rings a just a few quid off fleabay.

Only question in my mind, is whether the flange on the drive shaft is present on the later version, and is it the same diameter? Okay, two questions...

The CV joints are identical, with the exception that the later type are missing the rings. As you say, they are just a few quid on EBay and can be tapped on very easily.

Thanks all for your help. I thought as much. Gonna sort it this weekend BTW bought a thing caled a CV joint puller ebay ref 201908757228. Does anyone know if these work? If so it could change my life!!!!
