Headliner again

Just read that I should've posted this here cos I can't include questions on my project cloud:

So earlier this aft I was "very delighted, in fact I think I'm f%$king marvellous ... Whoooooppppeeeeeeeeeeee ... Just got my headliner off. No rips or tears, just lots of condensation above ... I was gonna do something flowery as a new fabric, but I might just try and re-glue the original with trim-fix". Then, I brought the headliner indoors to strip and I found a hibernating fly and a teganara domestic in the seam and sagging bit, so I've left the stripping for the other half tomorrow. My plan is:

a) gonna milton fluid the carcass and dry out. Wash the fabric with vanish, zoflora and spin (and possibly refit)
b) Q: I watched a youtube video on taking the rear view mirror off (obviously a 2 second pull) but I can't find a video on how to put it back on again?
d) Do you know how they future-proof new houses laying cables etc.?? Well any suggestions on what I should lay before putting liner back on much appreciated. I am gonna run wire for two reversing cameras, but what else d'yall think?
e) condensation proof the future. Gonna buy silent coat. I'm bamboozled by all the other things people have put on, and I dunno which else to go with now other than what's marketted as the best. Gonna try and seal any leaks including around sunroof.

I've had cracks between the joins in my roof and had to tidy up the masses of sealant when it was resprayed. The captain tolley stuff was great, just kept dripping it along the crack line until it wouldn't fill any further.

I also spent a month soaking my headlining (minus covering) with PVA to give it some strength back. Plus some amazing papermache skills.

D'ya know? For taking the dog's on the field in the morning, that'd be brill, as I have to leave the front door open so I can get their leads and stuff together and let em out. I'm using a torch at the mo. I just thought it'd be complicated putting a switch on the back door? I'll look into it, cheers.

If you want to keep it simple, just add a switch in the cab that you can turn on before opening the back door. If you wire it into a switched live circuit, it will not matter if you accidentally leave it on as it would go out with the ignition when you turn off the engine.

I'm really hoping the headlining isn't over stretched so it goes past all the holes for the rear hand grips and alpine light etc. when I try and reuse it, cos my sun visors are the same as the headlining and it'd be great if it was all the same. Look at the s&%t from the front piece:

If you can't decide what extras you want in the rear compartment why not leave a small bore conduit with a mouse wire behind the headlining? Then you can run whatever cables you like later without major disruption.

Hadn't thought of that. Good shout. I've got some thin fibreglass rods in the shed somewhere that I used for fishing the cctv cables under the floorboards. That's what I'll do. Cheers

If it’s wired in this way, the ignition would need to be left on for it to work. Leaving the keys in and ignition on is quite a risk, with how vulnerable these things are to steal anyway?

I wired in door switches into the second row doors and rear door. If you get the correct switch, and put it in the right place, the rear door wiring cover actually activated and switches all the lights like a front door. It’s not that complicated, just find and extend the switching earth for the front doors.

I also have a reverse camera and cabling for the rear speakers to go into mine. The roof and accessory light wiring is all run along the chassis and up into the rear tub area, but you could run it inside if you wanted to?

Look by your right knee at the 3 switches. Have you got 1 that does your internal lights? (This also can turn your dash lights off)
this on mine is live with no ignition

Then Just loop off another light from the front light

No problem. They are easy enough to wire in, so long as you use the correct earth wire.

The door switches are one the earth all they do is complete the circuit to earth through the screw attaching it to the body work when you open the door, so adding an additional rear door switch is just a case of extending the earth wire from the light down to the new switch. If you want to add an additional light in the rear load area then you just cut a whole in the headlining suitable to fit the new light and extend the wiring from the front one. I have a line of three original Land Rover lights down the centre of my roof lining but I have a 110. You could Probabaly get away with one additional one I t he centre of the rear load area.

I think the light position varied depending on the age of the vehicle. My original headlining before the fire had the light where yours is, but the replacement head lining (which I think came from a TD5) had it between the sun visors. I have one in each position now with a third halfway down the load area, I have a full headling despite being a hard top. As you only have a baby one, you could probably get away with just the single central one you have currently.
