When you say "fob broken" is it physically damaged or does the red LED still come on when you press the buttons?
If so, insert the key into the door lock, turn the key to lock the door while pressing "lock" button on the fob hold for a couple of seconds. Then twist to unlock and press "unlock" on the fob at the same time for a couple of seconds.
If the lock solenoids click (as when you lock/unlock) there is a good chance the fob is now synced.
Remove from the lock, press lock on the fob and if it locks, press unlock, pop into the ignition and it should start...
Good luck and let us know if it's working.

i buy the fob repair kit, batteries, rubber button cover battery cover and batteries in a kit. when the battery cover comes off it does get chewed up and the cap connectors can be unaligned theres a couple of arrows than need to line up if you look carefully. if they dont the cap connectors dont meet and the fob wont work

And the batteries need to be changed within 1 minute.

For the five millionth time, if the fob is out of sync. YOU CANNOT SYNC THE FOB IF THE EKA CODE HAS NOT BEEN ENTERED CORRECTLY AND ACCEPTED. IF IT SAYS "ENGINE DISABLED" IT NEEDS THE EKA CODE, BEFORE YOU CAN SYNC THE FOB. Please take note i am truly sick of typing this every five bloody minutes.
While I agree with you, sometimes (only sometimes) my battery went flat so needed a jump start. Then I had to sync the key, which is why I stated to try that.
However, last week, after disconnecting the battery overnight it didn't work when I reconnected the battery.
Lucky I have a sync mate that I bought in Cyprus (Black Box Solutions) so I plugged it in, ten seconds later I was in and the engine was running.
If you don't have your EKA code, call up local LR dealer and ask if they can help.
It's worth it's weight in gold as a call out and a trip to the dealer to get it on the computer would be hundreds.
Perhaps someone nearby could plug in a sync mate or a nanocom or some such.
If you're on facebook look for P38 Owners Club and ask if there is someone nearby who could help.

The Syncmate has nothing whatsoever to do with the EKA code. The Syncmate writes the security code stored in the ECM to the BECM. That function has nothing to do with the EKA code. If the fob has lost synchronisation with the BECM and the engine disabled message is showing the fob CANNOT be re-synced until the EKA code has been entered and accepted. That function has nothing to do with a Syncmate. You would be amazed at the people on here who still don't get that.

As I have never noticed @wammers get annoyed this way before, he must really be fed up. Is there a way for the clever folks to do a key synch thread for both P38 and L322 and have it made a sticky? That way those who can't be assed to use the search facility, kindly provided by the web designers, could possibly see it at the top of the forum.

Two different sync procedures for two different functions seem to be more than most people can cope with.

I'm not disagreeing with anyone that has posted on this thread as they probably know more about P38a's than I ever will.
I have passive immobilisation enabled on my Rangie and If I take too long loading the boot after a valid fob initiated unlock I get the "Engine Disabled - Press Fob" message in the message centre.
I press the fob unlock again and all is kushti once more. No EKA code entry required or need to use a Syncmate. Its just hit the delay-timer and passively immobilised the car.
Mine is a MY2000 P38 and it should have a coil in the steering column to automatically trigger a conversation with my valid remote fob and automatically remove the passive immobilisation (I believe), but it doesn't.
The options and features on the vehicle are counter-intuitive in some ways (e.g. Turn a light on to conform the A/C is switched "Off").
They are a laugh a minute. But I am really happy to have my P38 and wouldn't part with it.

You certainly should not get the "Engine disabled" message with the boot open after any length of time as far as I know. It certainly doesn't happen on either of my P38 runners.

No, maybe I wasn't clear. I mean that if I delay getting in and starting after having validly remote unlocked (e.g. taking time to put things in the boot, closing the boot) and THEN climbing aboard and putting the key in the ignition. That's when it says "Engine Disabled-Press Fob". Not that the tailgate is still open at this point.
