Hi all,
A pal of mine has a 2005 sport with what i think is a failed compressor, not running at all and car is on the bump stops. Can i safely connect 12v to the connector at the compressor to test it,before working my way back?

Thanks in advance

Ed

It might be better to check that you have 12 volts at the connector with a DVM first.

Thank you Keith, glad to see you are still here and sharing the wisdom.Checked and no voltage at the connector. If i probe the tails coming from the compressor i am getting a dead short, wonder if the compressor has seized and fried the relay on the way out.

The compressor may well show a very low resistance, you can check it with 12 volts direct.
I may be stating the obvious, but make sure you get the positive and negative the right way round or you may cause damage and initially connect only very briefly.

Checked it quickly this morning with 12v direct at the connector, and it's a dead short for sure.I can only assume the compressor has seized.Looks like i have some bad news for him. Thanks again Keith.
