hotwiring freelander no keys!

I about to buy a freelander but it's got no keys and on Irish plates..i wanted to check engine is OK and wondering the cheepest options as don't really want to pay a ton of cash if the motor is duff..etc can it be hot wired??without a key?!

Have you rung the Garda to see if it has been stolen?

What paper work do they have for it?

I'd walk away.
 
Just a mental exercise here.

You still have to import it to drive it on the roads as you can't legally own it and drive it on Irish plates as you can't register it in Ireland as you are not a resident there, then you have the DOE or NTC to get sorted, as they'll most likely be up, then the extra hike in insurance for an imported vehicle, then registration in the UK which would be subject to VAT most likely as you are not importing it to the UK with you on your return from living overseas.

That's just one big headache.

I imported my LHD Discovery with me when I returned from Holland and I had owned it for years having bought it in Belgium in 2012, all the receipts etc, to prove it and the hoops I had to jump through were vast and varying.

Leave it alone unless you are just going to use it for parts, if it's a parts motor then scrap money don't need a running engine and you can trailer/low loader/hiab it home.

Not yet but will suss it out..told I can buy a key for about 100/150 from landrover if I have the chassis number.key fob are about 80..or I just hot wire it but due to ecu and immobiliser I'm wondering how difficult it is..due to fuel rail and electronic injection?

The whole thing is a lot more complicated than you realize with it being foreign, Land Rover UK won't help you with just a chassis number and will want to see legit documentation and a bundle of pound notes for keys and fobs.

Fob might get you in but it's still immobilized without a coded key.

Like I said already, numerous times, this is a bigger headache than you need unless you're getting it for pennies in which case running prior to purchase is unimportant.

The flip side of this is also interesting to me.

Why is it for sale in the UK?

What paperwork is present?

Is the paperwork in the sellers name?

Have you verified identity of seller?

Have you HPI checked the vehicle is free from finance?

Why are there no keys?

Why are they trying to sell it without keys?

Why have they not already arranged keys for the vehicle they are trying to sell?

Why are you doing the sellers leg work?

How much do they want for it?

Can you post a picture of the vehicle with registration plate clearly visible?

11 questions for you, then you make up your mind as to whether this is a legit motor.

The answers you post here will tell us whether you're legit or just a cunning twoc'in cnut trying to get info out of genuine enthusiasts
