Can the FBH cause the coolant to go down if it always comes on.? I'e had to top it up recently but can't see any visible leaks or residue in oil

I wouldn't have thought so. Have you checked the expansion bottle for cracks? And is the expansion bottle cap OK?

Expansion tank looks OK i can' see any residue. It' got the rachet type type so gonna try a new one anyway. I have taken fuse 5 out for now see if it makes any difference

There's a sneaky coolant conectors under the plastic inlet manifold that can leak but evaporates as it touches the head so no viable water leak just pink coolant residue around the joint.
AFAIK it's a plastic part that bolts onto the head/engine..it's has one of those orange seals that you get in the inlet manifold..it fails and then coolant leaks..worth a try. I flipped mine over and put plenty of sealant on it..been ok for years now.

must have been that y piece where it bolts to the engine with 3 bolts

I seem to have a mysterious leak in that area also but my engine is petrol. I have to add about half a litre or less of coolant approximately every 1000 miles so it's not enough of an inconvenience to cause me to start stripping stuff off to get at it. Mine is the notorious 1.8k series engine so I keep an eye on the coolant level religiously.

OK cheers for that. So if I take the air intake off I will see the part you mean?
