Mark,

Give Heathy (Paul) at Discovery 2 Parts a call on 01206 211623, he will have a good tested working RF unit at reasonable price, if you want to go down that road. At least you will then know for sure that the RF unit is OK, and the fob should then communicate properly with it.

I fitted a new RF receiver unit and it made no difference........I've also contacted a key fob repairer and he said..........it cant be the keys,,,....I am at a loss now

I spoke to a gentleman at https://callrova.com today. They specialise in refurbing BCU's and he reckoned that apart from the possibility of the replacement RF module being faulty, it is likely that when my fusebox went (it was definitely badly damaged) it is common for there to be damage to the BCU as a result.. Personally, seeing that I haven't yet inspected it and additionally that water ingress is possible in that corner seeing that both front sunroof corner drains are in need of re-sealing (mastic has failed, I have headlining out and this is the next job) I think that once funds allow I might well be going down the route of having this done..

The price quoted is about £180 plus postage, I will have to send the ECU and keys as well so that when it all comes back it will be 'plug and play'. Apparently, if the BCU turns out to be undamaged, I would only pay for return postage.

Moron, I wonder if that's a road you might consider too?? assuming your fusebox is OK and failing diagnostics can't enlighten you further.. See what the others on here say to this, I'm still very green to landrovers and they are far more experienced than me, but I feel it's worth mentioning.

Meanwhile, till I have more funds, I'm going to continue on other areas of the vehicle, e.g. sunroof leaks (with headlining removed at least it's not going down the pillars onto my replacement fusebox lol) and ABS..

Thanks again everybody :)

all the best, Mark XF

Mark,

Not sure quite how you can re-furb a BCU... It is a box of electronic wizardry that is linked to the ECU, and specifically set up with your settings for alarm, immobiliser etc specifically for your car. Strongly suggest you talk to Heathy (Paul) on 01206 211623 as I suggested, BEFORE parting with your money.

Tony

I will definitely do that, the callrova guy did say repair more than refurb I think but I'd be a fool not to take your advice here.. I'll give Heathy a call tomorrow time permitting. He's the one that I'd get a tested rf module from too isn't he? I'd bet he'd have been better choice for the fusebox too. it was second time lucky with that... I should have joined this forum sooner lol..

Thanks again,

Mark,

Yes, you should have got the IDM from him too, that would have been best, and he will have a tested RF unit as well. I see you have now just joined the correct forum...........

IMO that;'s a wise conclusion...better register to http://www.thed2boysclub.co.uk/index.php and i'm sure you'll find somebody close to you https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewe...&z=2&ie=UTF8&mid=1PmbphOvO47RAsn1ZdQFDD-ed-zo

As it happens, I subscribed to that group yesterday and got added earlier today. That's a good idea Sierrafery, It looks like there are some people not far from here, so if I get on with the rest of the vehicle and get it on MOT'd and on the road, I'll be able to meet with someone locally and get it scanned :). I'm very fortunate that it starts and runs!! Started investigating the ABS today which with the help of previous posts from yourself and others, I'm confident I can sort, luckily my autel seems to be reading the SLABS ecu fine so I can get some decent data :D

Then it's just a track rod end and a little welding and I'm in business.
