Hey guys,
I’ve recently purchased a 1963/64 series IIa from Belgian army. She’s rough but I’ll make her pretty again.

I’ll try to post the restoration process in this thread :)

this is her now:

I want to leave the patina cause it looks gorgeous. Bulkhead needs to be fixed as it’s rusted. I wanna get rid of all non-original parts such as lights on the wings or side indicators. It’s a 2,25 Petrol (probably matching numbers)

I’ll be very thankful for any advice, pics for inspiration and reference and all other stuff like this :)

If anyone has some PDFs for series IIa and would be keen to share that would be great!

Hello Antir, your right she does look great but are you sure it's a she, looks more like a macho he to me.
I agree about the patina, it would be a shame to hide it under fresh paint, it looks like mine and I love it.

Great purchase and plan, remove all that non original stuff and keep it in the original patina and just fix the rust.
I bought an ex Australian army 1962 series 2a way back in 1974, it was a jacked up version with the fenders squared out for extra fording depth, all in original military patina, no top, we used to slip the fan belt off and drive it along the river bed to our favourite picnic spot with water right up to the seats, it was a great offroader.

Little and light is the way forward imo :)

Looks like a good stater for a restoration.:) The lights in the wings may well be an original Belgian military modification done so as a spare wheel could be carried on the front bumper at a sloping angle. The holes in the bumper point to this.I have not seen it on a 2a before. However many series one [ "Minerva" Belgian built series one's ] had this fitting.

as far as I know and I might be wrong it was a requirement in Belgium to have the lights in the wings as well as indicators on the side of the wings. There’s a rear fog light added as well. About the bumper, 4 holes are for mounting a tow hitch something like the one from the pic below I reckon and the one next to it is for the starting handle. Please correct me if I’m wrong

The holes in the bumper will be for mounting a tow hitch but as it is ex military it is more likely to be the nato hitch style picture below (taken from google). you are correct the other hole is for the starting handle which being a petrol you could use if you were so incline. You are a better man than I if you can get a land rover diesel going with a starter handle!

Christ, wouldn't want to go into the back of that :eek::D
No different to my 110. Made a right mess of a citron van when he went into the back of me. I also have the military bumperettes so he lost both both lights as well as grill and radiator!

That's how the fenders were cut out on my series 2a, extra long spring hanger/shackles, but lights were still grouped in the grille, a real "spartan". Lay the screen down, better than a sports car, super "fuel inefficient" 2.25 litre petrol engine, would go past anything except a petrol station, lots of fun.
