Hya.
I'm sure this has been asked before but was wondering what's the best carb for a 2.25 S3. Solex or Webber? Quite a difference in price but will go for best option. I will be fitting a Turner head in the next few mths.

I used to run twin forties on my Fiesta Supersport had a 1740 Crossflow in it. They used to bang off the bulkhead.

The Zenith on mine is fine, I can't really think of a good reason to swap it for a Webber.

Webber is more efficient and easier to tune ...

Would fitting twin webbers make any difference to power? ie give a better top end or only a smoother slow running speed?
I have been thinking about doing this for some time but wonder if fitting a better camshaft is the way to go ..

The design of the inlet manifold,valves,ect limits what you can do on a standard motor.The twin webbers may well get more fuel in but without extra air all you will do is use more fuel and blacken your spark plugs.
It is possible to get quite a bit more from the 2.25 but as you suspected it involves head work,manifolds,ect. I found the Zenith fine for a standard 2.25,a bit more power than a webber but a little less economy.

If you have a series 3 engine with the 3 main bearings, you need to be a bit careful about increasing the performance. There was some discussion on here ages ago about fitting uprated camshaft so, Turner engineering was against the idea if I remember well.

Col is right, only the 5 bearing can go the whole hog with tuning,however just getting a 3 bearing running spot on with regards to condition of head,valve gear,ignition,carb ect helps a lot. All older motors lose a number of horses over the years.

Not bothered on economy.My carb is a bit worn nd riching out. When looking at repair kits i found that new carbs were quite reasonable in price.Well compared to motorcycle carbs
