After much mulling and trolling the classifieds intently, watching many auctions, constant refreshing of Autotrader, Gumtree, Preloved etc etc etc we went for this.....

Now as the majority know the 2002 to 2005 L322's are plagued with a few 'niggles' but hey ho, where's the fun?

She is a 2002 4.4 Vogue on LPG with a Prins system - currently untested as it had no gas in it - MOT'd until Sept 2018, a few minor niggles that may need to be addressed before the next MOT, but it gives me 6 months to work through those, chiefly corroded rear brake pipe and a slightly perished front upper suspension bush.

Gearbox has been changed within the last 50k miles and a re-manufactured engine fitted in 2008 - In Sept last year she had new VANOS seals, timing chains, guides and tensioner, FSH with stamps in the book. Sold with a 6 month warranty. Previous owner only selling as the DVLA has said he is too infirm and didn't pass the medical to continue driving it.

Currently the steering wheel movement controls don't work, and the LPG tank needs a new airtight cover for the valve gear. Has a slight tapping on cold start, but has been sat in his yard for the last month or so, so could be a lazy valve lifter, and it did quieten down to the usual M62 burble after 30 seconds or so...and oddly when the SAI pump cut off...so could be related to the SAI system.

Drives spot on, no creeks, knocks, bangs or grumbles. Steering is tight and responsive, kicks down nicely and pulls cleanly.

Not 100% perfect, but the exterior and interior have been well looked after, and a stack of receipts that took me nearly 20 minutes to go through.

This is going to be the girlfriends car, as we tried getting her to belt in the baby seat in the P38 and the 110 and she can't reach over the top of the baby seat to do the belt buckle up....so we needed a car with the ISOFIX mount system that we can just click the baby seat in and out of with worrying about the seat belt method....and the only thing she would part with her 110 for is another L322.

Need to now get the 110 prepped and ready for sale, so I can pay my dad back for loaning us the cash to purchase.

Picking it up on Saturday so expect a further review in due course.

I am jealous as it will be her car, but I still get to drive my P38 so not a bad day!

I have no idea what #YOLO means but it looks a lovely car. The fact so much has already been spent doesn't fill m with confidence but if anyone can spot an issue and sort it I'm sure you can.

ISOFIX mounts. I've heard some dodgy excuses but that one is really stretching it!

Cheers chaps.

Very pleased, and yes we would have preferred a light interior, but on our budget with the over ridding needs being V8 and LPG, means beggars can't be choosers....

We went to see a few, watched a lot of auctions, adverts and classified - and there are some dogs out there, even for more money than we agreed to pay for this one....

So whilst there were others with a V8, LPG, Light Interior - they were total dogs and I wouldn't p!$$ on them let alone drive them...this one was owned by a chap who had looked after it, it is clean and square...yes there are a few things to be done (what would you expect for a 16 year old Range Rover that I bought for a snip!!) but the major items have been addressed - Timing Chains, Guides, VANOS seals, Gearbox etc....the rest is just rubbers and nuts and bolts (I hope!!)

I would whole-heartedly urge people to research, research and research any potential purchase, go and see loads of them...remember they are getting of an age where they are falling out of the service and maintenance 'sphere' of many previous owners and are often neglected...then bought by those whose want one, but can't fix them and so further deteriorate....chose wisely - time will tell if I have done so!!

Good news mate, I’m sure you will have it as good as new soon, do you still have a kidney left over from the last one ....?:)

Looks nice Ant. May you have many miles of trouble free motoring.

You forgot the addit that comes with YOLO. It's YOLOFISH, and as green Oval owner you known it makes sense ;)

Picked up today - and I had totally forgotten how AWESOME they are to drive....the P38 is a great drive (although mine has a tendency to wander at the moment despite new bushes, track rod and drag link)....but the L322 is more 'car-like' and planted.

The P38 has comfier seats (just) and a more 'off road' driving position, but the L322 is solid, planted and powerful.

Went to move the P38 off the drive and put the L322 in its place after a 40 mile drive in the L322, and suddenly realised how much more prodding of the accelerator pedal you have to give the P38 to get it on the move, whereas the in the L322 you just brush the pedal and she leaps off!

The ride is more supple in the P38 but this can lead to wallowing, whereas the L322 is a bit more jarring, but you have more confidence in a corner, if that makes sense.

The environs of the cabin are more 'relaxing' in the L322, because it wafts along and it is very quiet in there, and you can get a better seat position due to the more adjustment options, lumber support and contoured seats. The P38 seats are more spongey and the leather is softer, while the L322 seats are a bit thinner in the padding and the leather is not as supple but with all the adjustability, you can get into a more ergonomic seating position.

Cruising on a motorway, they are comparable in waft-ness, the difference comes when going to overtake....the P38 needs a boot and a run up, the L322 just needs a little more prod and she'll kick down and pin you in your seat....all with total aplomb.

Around town the L322 has the edge, she is big bold and brash, people just get out of the way - and when even the odd Volvo SUV or Audi Q driver refuses, all you have to do is pull alongside, look down your nose, raise an eyebrow - smile a wry smile and pull away and they just know they are driving inferior cars!

The P38 in town and stop start traffic has a tendency to hunt between 1st and 2nd gears, whereas the L322 will stay in 2nd and pull away from a standstill in that to prevent it hunting and shunting.

The P38 is an awesome vehicle and I love it to pieces and will replace the 110 as my daily driver, but I am jealous that once our new child is born on Friday and the other half is able to drive again (5-6 weeks), I will only get to drive the L322 at the weekend - so between then and now I am going to get as much time behind the wheel as possible.

Oh, and the LPG system works - yay.

Sounds fantastic but let's hope those same Volvo and Audi drivers don't pass you when your broken down at the side of the road. I hope it doesn't come to that though.
