Sorry to hijack this thread but can someone tell me why, when all my sockets are 1/2inch I can't find a 1/2inch drive torque wrench that goes down below 28NM? My current one goes from 28-210nm but sometimes I need to go lower.. There are hundreds of 3/8 and 1/4 inch drives that do the job, and I know that I could get a converter. It just seems strange to me, or am I missing something?

I have one made by Williams 15-70 nm

also have a teng that does 20 - 200 nm the teng does angle as well as torque

both half inch drive

btw this is a 2012 thread you have revived :D

You need a short handle on the low torques and the mechnisms on the break type have a limited range, on the dia type the divsions would be hard to read on low torques so again the range is limited. I used to do some nuts to 400lb ft, the needle on that torque wrnech would be 20lbft wide. Buy at least 2 (I have 3, 1/4 low range, 1/2 break type mid range and 1/2 click type high range) I get mine from bootsales - the aviation grade 1/4 drive was £2 with an in-date calibration sticker. People are retiring and pleased to see it go to someone who will use it. Very few people do spanner work at home now.

you shouldnt really need a torque wrench for such

Never owned a torque wrench. Probably never will. I like to think of myself as an old school safe cracker who dunt need a stethoscope.
It’s all in the fingers :D;)

I do use them now, I found that most "normal" torques in the 20-50lb ft range are fairly easy to judge, but if its big - 120lb ft like the main bearing caps on the Perkins or light as in lb-in on rocker covers or carbs its hard to judge. If more people used torque wrenches on carbs, rocker covers and British bikes there would be a lot less bent and leaking engines and carbs. Just about every rocker cover, carb and chaincase I have ever taken apart has been bowed from overtightening. Obviously not by anyone on this forum I hasten to add! But trust my word, someone is doing it.
