Hi, I’m thinking of fitting a tracker to my defender as I’m going to be using it for work, I currently use a steering wheel lock and a clutch pedal lock, it seems to be a mine field, I’m not necessarily wanting the cheapest option, I’d be looking at the best option to recover my defender quickly, looking forward to hearing from users.

There was an article on this forum a couple of years ago on this very subject & the OP seemed well informed. Try doing a search.

Yes thanks, only the last page is any good, I was after what people have fitted and their opinions 0-10, would they buy it again etc, I’m not interested how it works as I’m a technophobe, that’s why I’m running a 300TDI

As you know a tracker enables a stolen vehicle to recovered, hopefully. I have one fitted to my car because of an insurance requirement. But a decent alarm and immobilised is the first line of defence.

So if your a "technophobe I assume u won't be installing a tracker system yourself, so why bother with opinions but go and get a tracker professionally fitted straight away, u won't know where it is, or if its operating unless u request a function test from the reporting company.

I've been in the electronic security industry most of my working life so up to to date with technology past and present but with trackers it a passive system that doesn't need worrying about, it's fit and forget.

There’s a great cheap one off amazon, which is very effective but requires a degree of know how to wire it in. Also it’s programmed by txt and sends you txt co-ordinates. Not a simple set up but very good value

I've got an active tracker fitted to mine. Costs £70 a year for the service but I can see it moving, get trip reports, and set geofences. A geofence means I get an alert if it moves outside of a set area. As the tracker has an app for Android I can set the geofence quickly and easily where ever I park. If it is stolen then I can follow it until it is parked and the police turn up. If I needed I can wire it to stop then engine when the speed drops below 10kph......imagine you have stolen the Landy and it dies at the first traffic light you get to!
