Its a head scratcher this one. There's a smell coming up from the front, just in front of the water pump.
Its a bit like burning rubber, a bit like burnt oil, and a bit like burning electrics, but none of these smell the same.
Aux belt is newish, showing no signs of wear on ribs or edges.
Tensioner is less than 2 years ld.
Alternator is new (changed because there was a noise - it wasn't the alternator!)
water pump is new
No play in any pulley, except a little bit rotational in PAS pump, which has previously been a bit noisy - much better since I changed the PAS fluid today by the 'suck a little out, refill, run it and repeat' method, until it looked clean.
After a drive if about 2 miles to home, the smell is still there - there is nothing directly below where the smell comes up from. Its like the smell is carried up on the rising heat, if that makes sense?
