hi all well I sent off for a new turbo vacuum control valve and what came was the egr vacuum control valve, the only difference is the egr one has the bottom pipe blocked off
and if you take the part that blocks the bottom pipe off they look the same,
does anybody know for sure if they are the same.

The turbo vac valve has 3 ports as one has to allow air to enter the turbo vac motor quickly, so boost is cut when not needed. The EGR valve has just 2 ports, presumably relying on vacuum decay through the pipe joints to close the EGR valve.

I doubt you can use the wrong valve in the wrong location.

Actually looking at the EGR valve, it appears to vent into that box on the side. Obviously that's not replaceable, so wouldn't be very long lasting on the turbo vac motor.

I have taken the box bit off the side and it now looks like the three pipe one ,I have put it on and will try it today and will let you know

all this could have been sorted in the beginning I had the local LR repairers put the computer on and it said it was the vacuum control valve on the back of the engine ,so I looked on line on ebay and there was one still in original packing so I brought that one , now I realise that was not a good one , it was probably the one that let the person down and they changed it and put the old one in the new box , and this cost me a lot more money as I thought I had put a good vacuum valve on so I was replacing other things , so if I ever find out who the scumbag was that sold me an old not working valve things will fly .
