Hi,I've just fitted a boost gauge to my 90 200tdi (disco) and I'm only getting 0.5 bar,That's with the actuator rod at it's shortest length,which I find odd because i know it should be more like 0.8 ish as standard,the pump is untouched,I've checked for split hoses, all look in good order,I was toying with the idea of buying a boost pin but wanted to get a boost gauge 1st before I start messing with it,now I've fitted it's obviously highlighted I've got an issue because theres no more adjustment left in the actuator rod,ive t'd the gauge in to the pipe that comes from the turbo to the top of the pump,would I be getting a accurate reading from there?or should i have gone closer to the turbo ?theres minimal play in the turbo itself(If any)and I'm running our of ideas of what to check next ?any help would be much appreciated.

Given the age of the engine/turbo, your maximum boost may be reduced. Make sure all your hose clips are good and tight. Does it drive OK - can you feel the turbo kick in ?
 
Checked all hoses and clips and all ok,Yes it drives fine,you can feel the turbo come in and it holds boost,and no smoke,apart from the black cloud on start up,I just thought it should be putting out a bit more with the actuator rod at it's shortest and uphill is comical .

Gauge might be inaccurate?
I remember reading somewhere, when I did mine, that the rod sometimes needs a bit cutting off to allow more adjustment.
 
I've read that too about cutting the rod but that was to achieve 1bar -1.2bar ,It's a new gauge so doubt it's faulty but you never know,what does yours say it's boosting at?

I've got a gauge on the dash but I hardly look at it, 11psi rings a bell.
I did tweak it to 15 psi at one time but the turbo failed and I didn't want to risk the new one so turned it back to standard.
 
In a nutshell it wont make max boost if it hasnt got enough fuel.
So starting at the beginning is the injector pump lever actually hitting the stop screw with the throttle pedal buried into the floor? you will be surprised how many are not!
Air filter blocked? unlikely but you never know
Fuel filter last changed? and when it was changed was it full to the brim or half empty?

Always worth posting up your rough location as they may me a lz member nearby.
 
Fuel and air filter changed about 6 months ago,and I just checked the throttle is reaching its max and it is,the fuel filter was full when I removed the old one and I filled the new one before fitting.
Would the original exhaust have anything to do with it?because after the down pipe it's the standard 2.5td exhaust ?probably clutching at straws.

I'd be connecting the gauge to the inlet plenum - so you can measure the pressure in there.

IMHO, lynalls post, #8 is spot on.

I've got a twin silencer TD system on my 110, made no difference to my boost figures, I got 18psi by accident easily when fiddling.
 
I'd fiddled with the max fuel screw (wrongly) as well and the power (and smoke!) Was incredible! The bloody thing took off like a scalded cat and boost went mental unless I feathered the throttle.
I settled on 15psi boost with abit of smoke but the turbo went sometime later , might have been ages later I can't remember but I decided to return to stock after fitting the new turbo.
Thinking back I'm sure now that I actually shortened the actuator rod, I remember cutting it with a hacksaw using molegrips to hold it.
 
Worth checking the fuel pin in the pump that let’s more fuel in when on boost. Mine was partially seized and it affected power quite a lot, again when on boost uphills. I freed it off and lubed it with a bit of silicon spray and it’s been great ever since.

It’s the bit on the end of the plastic vacuum pipe from the turbo and inlet manifold area

I've recently put a reconditioned turbo on my 300Tdi. I complained about it and the company replaced it. The first one got up to about 0.7bar when I was thrashing it up a decent incline. It's response, when driving, was very slow. When you put your finger in it and spun the blades it would only spin about half a turn. I never thought anything of that until I got the replacement. The blades in the second one would do a few revolutions before stopping. I thought hmmmm............. This one boosts up to 0.8-0.9 under the same load. The Landy accellerates and puls much better and the response to the loud pedal is much sharper. My boost gauge is plumbed in to the back of the inlet manifold.
