So I have a set of Heavy Duty See Saw ramps - Max weight 3750kg. Max wheel base 2900mm
(Def td5 90)

The ramps are great with the def 90 standard clearance you have loads of room under neath etc, only thing is of course can't remove wheels, which is a shame because its at a perfect height, Stub axle is at chest height so I could sit in a chair and play swivels, bearings and suspension all day long!

So I got to thinking, if I could in some way bridge the ramps where the rear wheels / axle sits i could jack it up, pop in a couple of axle stands and job done. I am thinking along the lines of those galv loading ramps that recovery trucks use, shave off lip on one side etc (as it would be horizontal across the ramps) I would have to devise a way to lock them in position etc. Or is there another way?

 So, in summary, your plan is to drive your 1.6+ Tonne landy on to a wobbly thing, try to have some sort of bracing ready and then take a road wheel off to work on the stub axle?
Might good quality axle stands and chocs all round be easier. o_O

Not quite but see you have the general idea...!

Wobbly Thing? Car stage / See saws lock into position when vehicle is on them, they do not move and are not in the least wobbly......

Bracing ready? ... no, not for bracing, a cross beam the same as a beam jack on a hydraulic lift.

Will let you know how I get on if i am still alive!

I'd be thinking of worst case scenario. If you have a wheel off and the landy shifts, it could get pretty wobbly then.
Good luck.

with the other three chocked, don't see it would be any different to using axle stands, they are rated for more the the kerb weight of the vehicle etc

I expect your going to tell me this pic of me welding is not safe aswell?

Sturdy props those. :p
When you've got a wheel off, how do you plan to 'prop' up that corner?

i just have no clearance under my defender so i need all the height i can get...
